I'm a legit big fan of them. "King James Version" is one of my all-time favorites, and a lot of their stuff still makes my playlists. So yeah... I'm going to nerd out here for a moment.
- The producers of Cruel Intentions wanted them to rewrite one of their songs, the "Flagpole Sitta" B-Side "Ballad of the Tragic Hero (Pity and Fear)" to fit the plot of the film. They ultimately turned them down on the grounds of selling out, but not before recording a studio quality demo. Sean Nelson has since called their sudden refusal "a very stupid decision."
- For reasons my wife and I still can't figure out, the Circuit City release of King James Version came with a three-song EP. It's best remembered amongst fans for "Plague of Locusts," a very sarcastic, Cliff's Notes retelling of the book of Revelations.
- Before the release of their third album, they put out an EP of their Christmas song, "Sometimes You Have to Work on Christmas (Sometimes)". In addition to a surprise demo (and "Plague of Locusts"), the CD came with a personalized Christmas card signed by the band. I still have it.
- Sean Nelson was a big deal in the Seattle local music scene. In the liner notes for the first Death Cab album, Nelson is the first person they thank after their families.
I've always considered them to be the missing link between grunge and a more indie sound. Take album track "Wrecking Ball." It's basically the world's most depressing early Death Cab track.

So he's going to do a Marcy Playground episode in the future, Right? Seems to fit what he's been doing lately.

So he's going to do a Marcy Playground episode in the future, Right? Seems to fit what he's been doing lately. Todd doesn't really do "themes", so I wouldn't read too much into that. What I have noticed is that when he does a OHW on 80's/90's pop songs, it's usually because of a Patreon sponsor. That makes sense, 80's and 90's pop songs are probably what the bulk of his fanbase grew up on. When Todd is left to his own accord though, his genre selection is much more diverse, and he also seems to really favor weird novelty songs.

I like this song and I love this review. I wish Todd didn't mention Lit because now I want to see a Regretting the past on that band...I don't want to pay to see it either.

Spekaing of Lit this song is sometimes incorrectly stated as being done by them. Ah good old reliable 00 music sharing services.

Really cool song. I also liked their cover of the English Beat’s “Save It for Later”. I thought that song was excellent as well, and thought it’d be a big follow up single for them. Not so much.
