It's a trilogy now? Eh. I get it, but man do I wish Hollywood would stop counting their chicks before they hatch. Focus on making one really good movie, then go from there. Letting people know this is probably another Batman series that's three and done too just leads to ultimately angry and disappointed fans if it is good because X didn't happen or they didn't adapt Y or how come Z wasn't used as a villain. I'm cautiously optimistic about this first outing so far. I really hope Matt gets to make the movie he wants and it's more of a detective movie than any live action adaption we've gotten so far. It'd be nice to see the World's Greatest Detective, you know, detect. I get what you're saying, but planning a trilogy will hopefully be good for pacing, and not bring us stuff like Batman V Superman, where 2-3 movie's worth of stuff is happening in one film, while simultaneously feeling like nothing's happening because much of it happened in the last 15 minutes. It also means they’re running the distinct risk of telling a third of the story when DC already has a very uneven record with movies, and there’s a distinct chance the whole story will be scrapped and rebooted with new actors and a new crew for the next one. Besides that, it kind of pisses me off as an audience member to be asked to shell out full price for an incomplete story. Not everything needs to be a multi film epic. Maybe get one solid film with this cast and crew under your belt first.

It'd be nice to see the World's Greatest Detective, you know, detect. If we're getting technical here with the detective element. We actually saw some detective work here and there in the Keaton Batman films, a lot of it in Batman Forever, and some in Batman vs. Superman. Going forward they're going to have to be a little careful as the detective element could bore the audience if it isn't done right.

That seems like... a bit much. Unless the majority of them are in a small scenes in Arkham or something.

I liked Lili Simmons as Catwoman in her one-off appearance on Gotham. Or get Alexandra Daddario into one of these movies.

There are quite a few really great Batman tales involving a plethora of villains (The Long Halloween, Knightfall, No Man's Land, Hush), so I'm hoping that vibe is Matt Reeves' idea.

On the surface seems like a lot of villains but I can see some more so as appearances than outright being involved the whole movie

I imagine if the goal is to focus on the detective aspect of Batman, these characters are gonna be there less for Batman to stop their schemes and more to act as informants and suspects and the like. I doubt they'll have large parts.

Yeah, knee jerk reaction was "OH NO" but after some thought, it seems like most of them are going to have minor roles in the film.
I wouldn't be surprised if, for example, Penguin's just an informant, Firefly is just some mook. Riddler, Mad Hatter and Two Face all have the potential to be more but they could be minor roles too. Something simple as red herrings or something to be thrown at Batman while he's trying to solve the main crux of the story ("Batman! Two Face's hijacked a bank's transport!").

I doubt they'll have large parts. To be honest, that's such a brilliant way to use villains like Penguin and Riddler. I always appreciated that from Jeph Loeb's Batman stuff.

Yeah, I got the same hunch. More of a well endowed cast than six focused antagonists and such.
