I see Jeffrey Wright is in talks too. I can see him as Black Mask. He would have been a great Lex Luthor. Why do Batman movies need multiple villains? Hill, Wright, and/or McAvoy would be way too much. All of those guys are strong enough to be a solo villain. The story they're basing it on is full of villains. But, they aren't the villains of the story. Think of them as colorful citizens of Gotham Batman shakes down for information. It's a murder mystery, so it only makes sense Batman would try to eliminate all suspects by actually approaching them all. Honestly, a single villain story is way more boring and generic than one where the audience has to try and figure out who among all these colorful weirdos is the killer. Sticking to a solo hero vs. solo villain formula doesn't accurately depict the colorful nature of Batman's world. Also, Jeffrey Wright is in final talks for Jim Gordon, not a villain. And here we go again with Those Debates, I bet. (to which I say, chill. Moreso if DC movies are going to be Elseworlds now instead of MCU Lite)

Just type "black Jim Gordon" into Twitter search bar if you want to lose a little more faith in humanity. I wonder how many lost their shit over Ra's al-Ghul, Talia al-Ghul, and Bane being portrayed by a white Irishman, white Frenchwoman, and white Englishman?

His trademarks are glasses, a mustache, a brown trench coat, and cigarettes. There's nothing in that description that necessitates a white actor. And Jeffrey Wright is flipping awesome.

So long as you get the core of the character right Gordon could be a 400 pound black woman for all I care.
Granted a few of these sorts of people were whining about them announcing a She-Hulk show saying that Stan Lee would be rolling in his grave at them making the Hulk a woman, apparently unaware that he created She-Hulk himself 40 years ago, so I doubt they really particularly care about fidelity to the source material.

I do not have the patience, time or inclination to coddle that crap here anymore. He's ex-military turned policeman from Chicago named Jim Gordon. His trademarks are glasses, a mustache, a brown trench coat, and cigarettes. Neither of the Gordons I find most iconic outside the comics fit that description to a 'T'.

I don't care if it's a black man or a 400 pound woman, as long as they have that thick mustache, they can play Gordon.

See, I’m a BTAS/Gary Oldman/Year One guy. Either way though, a great character is about to land a great actor.

Oh man, a thought just crossed my mind that now I'm going to be paranoid about - them potentially using the stupid-ass Gordon Jr. serial killer thing in this movie.

For the record, I’ve been mad about Bane being white in both movie appearances lol.
He’s not even brown! TOM HARDY?!

For the record, I’ve been mad about Bane being white in both movie appearances lol. He’s not even brown! TOM HARDY?! A lot of comic book movies are really guilty of "Not black? Must be white." casting. Not long ago, Ed Skrein stepped away from the Hellboy reboot because he discovered that the character he'd been cast as was meant to be Asian. And a few years before that, fans went so nuts about Michael Bay making Shredder white that they had to do a mess of reshoots to make him Japanese. The biggest offender is Bryan Singer though, who basically took the most diverse cast of characters in superhero comics and boiled it down to "White Americans" and "Black Americans". It's just indicitive of Hollywood more than anything else. We just happen to notice more with comic book movies because the characters have so much visual history. If these were original concepts and screenplays, you still wouldn't see as many brown-skinned people because the suits in Hollywood still think it's 1955.

It should’ve just been the white guy. For story’s sake instead of cramming in this faceless asian guy for two scenes

The alien thing was the first straw, then almost immediately after it was "Also, this badass minority character is now white" which broke the whole camel. The studio had no choice but to reshoot half the movie, because it wasnt a case where they could say "nerds are racist" as they were pushing against whitewashing. The flaws of the first movie are fare more apparent in the sequel, where Shredder is played by Brian Tee who absolutely kills it as Oroku Saki.

Also unlike other comic book outside of Batman and Superman, there already been 4 tmnt movies with the 1st movie being faithful to it comic book source so people knew what a TMNT movie should be and we can all agree that Kevin Nash should be the only white person to play Shredder.

I enjoy her a lot. I know Tessa Thompson was on the short list, and she'd have been my pick, but I never figured her Marvel schedule would have room. Kravitz is a really solid pick.
