I despise EA.
I wish more developers were like Epic Games. Say what you will about Fortnite as a game, but they seem to be a genuinely good company. Regular free updates, continuously updating and evolving the game, avoided the P2W model, the game is completely free, the season pass is cheap and, with the season pass, it's pretty easy to earn enough coins to pay for next month's season pass too. Their skins are a little high... but I don't begrudge them that when they're delivering pretty well across the board elsewhere.

I had fun with the alpha but I'm honestly partly getting it out of Bioware loyalty (or loyalty to the Bioware that used to be) mixed with how Bionicle-y the game looks.

Granted, they're nothing compared to the EA's and Activisions of the world, but there's been some really shady shit about their new storefront program.

The thing that really doesn’t jive with me is the no consumer feedback. Like yes it does prevent people from being children and review bombing a game to oblivion, but it also silences all criticism, like even things warranted. So if a game, say, has massive bugs that ruin the experience you can’t make note of that with reviews on the store itself. Also, you know, Tencent owning part of Epic also sets off all kinds of alarms with me. Pretty much the only thing I can say as a positive about their store is the insanely good revenue split for developers. 90/10 is extremely tempting. But I don’t know how well that will pay off for devs because all these games going exclusive to the store on PC for one year are all being met with massive waves of, “I’ll get it on console”(if it has a console version), or “I’ll just wait a year and get it on Steam”.

I was going by Fortnite, which to me is the model of a free to play game

Hell they are literally giving away the next season’s pass to anyone who completes a certain set of challenges by the 27th.

I've been playing Anthem because I thought I'd canceled my pre-order and it turned out I hadn't. It's actually pretty fun so far; nothing earth-shattering but the combat is fine, the movement/flying is really satisfying, and presentation-wise (graphics/sound) the game is friggin' gorgeous. Haven't encountered any bugs yet on PS4. The 7/10 scores seem fair, and though I know in modern gamer parlance that means it's an unplayable piece of shit, Anthem will probably be worth picking up a couple months from now once the price drops.

It's a fun little game, but the abysmal loading times and the aggravating hub world where you're having to wander around in first person listening to these lifeless NPCs drone on about random crap drags a lot of it down.
Another frustrating part is making flying have an arbitrary energy timer when it's your primary method of traversing the maps is also frustrating, since in the early game my Colossus needs to drop to the ground and run every 5 seconds due to overheating. It should've been treated like any other movement with no limitations, but instead it's got that weak mechanic that makes the "out of combat area" warnings that pop-up even more frustrating.
I made the decision to drop the $15 on Origin Premier just to try it out, and I'm glad I did because I don't plan on continuing after the month is up. Likely this will be the method I play any of EA's games if they keep coming out like this. By the time it gets its act together, it'll likely have dropped below $30 and I still would've saved money in the long run.

I'm interested to play the full game but I learned my lesson with Destiny and The Division about buying these types of games early on. Love the genre but it usually takes 6-12 months for the games to get to a really solid level of content and patches.

Seems fun. Only played a little bit waiting for my buddy to get it up and running to play some multiplayer.

I mean it could go completely south the farther I get in but this really doesn't seem as bad as impressions led me to believe. It's not GREAT by any stretch but it's pretty fun.

<reads reviews> Goddammit, this is gonna cost me Dragon Age 4 isn’t it... This is my worst fear. I don't want to play Anthem but I'm scared that if it doesn't do well EA will shut down Bioware and if I don't get DA4 so I can beat Solas's ass I will actually cry.

I dare say, this is the death knell for Bioware. F***ing hell, EA...another studio that you've killed with your incompetence. If Bioware goes down for this, kiss Dragon Age 4 and possibly another Mass Effect goodbye.

i thibk you guys are putting way too much stock into how reviews are going to effect sales. a lot of pepple do not pay much attention to reviews and just get games based. on what they personally think. how many games/movie sequels have we gotten that the original games got horrible reviews but still sold enough tp get a sequel (transformers, just cause 3, venom just to name a few things) so i wouldn’t freak out until i see what the sales are like

The loading screens and interface are silly. I wish the guns had a bit more flair and personality. First person walking in the forge is an odd choice.
That said.., there’s a fun game in there. I hope they stick with it, because there’s something in this.
Destiny didn’t have the best launch. Hopefully it grows and improves like that did.
