I guess a better title would be people you’re surprised are still in the public eye, since you can’t really become unfamous once you get there.
What made me think of this were those Fyre Festival documentaries with Ja Rule prominently featured. He had one number one hit about 20 years ago, some other high charting songs/albums from around the same time, then had a long spell with no new music and some jail time.
But people are still somehow talking about him in 2019 and he has enough power and/or money to get involved in high profile stuff like this. I looked up his Wiki since I thought I might have missed something. From his discography it looks like his last album came out in 2012 and less than 4,000 people bought it.
I don’t get it. Was “Always On Time” really a big enough song to sustain a career for a fifth of a century? Apparently so.
Also, Vanilla Ice reinventing himself about a million times. True, he’s the butt of jokes a lot of the time, but he still pops up in things. “To the Extreme” was a looooooooong time ago. IIRC he’s involved with house flipping or something like that too that gives him a financial boost.

Well stretching the word celebrity but Sandman is not a guy who you thought is making really good money
I believe he owns a construction company and has made really good money off that and only wrestles every now and again for the thrill

The cast of TOWIE. The show's novelty wore off five years ago yet they continue getting shoehorned onto every British light entertainment show going. You get the odd positive like Mark Wright, but the rest are talentless and vapid.

I'm not personally surprised, but I've seen a few people express surprise that Macauley Culkin was still doing well for himself. Kit Culkin may have been an obnoxious manager and stage dad, but he negotiated pretty impressive deals for Mac and to his credit, didn't steal from him or anything like that. Combine that with Home Alone 1 and 2 still getting a shitload of TV play over the years, and it makes sense why he only really ever had to do any acting when he felt like it, though now he's got the Bunny Ears website and podcast as his project. Good for him, seems like a neat dude.

David Copperfield apparently has a net worth of over $1 billion, owns a fairly sizeable chunk of private islands in the Bahamas (Musha Cay), and still is typically in the top 50 paid entertainers in the world on an annual basis (average $30-50 million a year). Quite impressive considering he hasn't really been household name in quite some time.

Vanilla Ice might get a lot of shit for being willing to almost anything for cash, but he was wise enough to make it while he could and and didn’t spend every dime he made. Apparently still a millionaire today.

A bit of an unusual example, but after going broke MC Hammer started a pretty successful career as a pastor and is apparently well off again.

Around that period Ja Rule appeared to pop up doing anothing awful 'rap' on every other song leading to one radio show in the UK, Mark & Lard having a running joke about him just appearing uninvited in studios and ruining songs, the artists powerless to stop him.

Man I couldn’t stand Ja Rule and he was huge in the U.K. in like 2002-03 everyone at my college loved his ‘music’. Thankfully it didn’t last.

I remember No Limit Records had closed their doors at some point in the early-2000s, but I later read that Master P didn't go broke because of it. I think he still had some money left over despite the closing of his label. He later started other labels and I think it was said that he ran strip clubs. I can't confirm it, though.

If he was still with us today :-(, I'd name the ECW Zombie too. Took a one shot segment on WWE television and made indy bookings for years after it. As for money...well I can't divulge out of respect, but he did struggle nonetheless. For many reasons.

More of a pseudo example, but I recall being as baffled as Greg Senestro was in the portion of the Disaster Artist where the teller at Tommy Wiseau's bank says the latter has a bottomless bank account.
The mind reels at trying figure out how someone with Tommy's quirks got that much money.
