More of a pseudo example, but I recall being as baffled as Greg Senestro was in the portion of the Disaster Artist where the teller at Tommy Wiseau's bank says the latter has a bottomless bank account. The mind reels at trying figure out how someone with Tommy's quirks got that much money. I think the best part of that book is where Greg refutes any claims that Tommy got all his money through criminal means just by pointing out how stupid it would be of any organised crime outfit to let him get near them. Apparently he does own several legit businesses including a store in a mall somewhere in SF, and some building he never told the crew of The Room that he owned, making them wonder why he never just filmed anything there instead of trying and failing to get permits all around the damn city.

I"m gonna guess Steve Guttenberg is doing OK for himself. You would too if you had an ancient secret society helping you.

Pauly Shore. He doesn't even do the "annoying Valley Boy" routine anymore.

Pauly Shore. He doesn't even do the "annoying Valley Boy" routine anymore. His mom basically WAS stand-up comedy. Without her, you weren't shit in the US. But I will say, Alan Thicke. I know he's dead now, but I watched his episode of Celebrity Wife Swap with Gilbert Gottfried. I couldn't believe what those Growing Pains residuals bought him for a house.

Chamillionaire apparently made wise investments and is very well off Paul Wall owns a bunch of body shops and was apparently set for life well before he crossed over into the mainstream for a moment there.

Well stretching the word celebrity but Sandman is not a guy who you thought is making really good money I believe he owns a construction company and has made really good money off that and only wrestles every now and again for the thrill I think sandman was rich before ECW and just did that shit for fun As I understand it, that's exactly it. Wrestling was his hobby, it didn't pay his bills. Which, when you consider he had a 15-month run with WWE, including being a regular on Raw for a while, is impressive.

I remember No Limit Records had closed their doors at some point in the early-2000s, but I later read that Master P didn't go broke because of it. I think he still had some money left over despite the closing of his label. He later started other labels and I think it was said that he ran strip clubs. I can't confirm it, though. It's no SHOCKER he's still Rich, dude was making big time money moving records independently

Chamillionaire apparently made wise investments and is very well off Chamillionaire saw the way the winds were blowing when he signed his deal in 2004 and took less money on physical product sold in exchange for a ridiculous percentage of digital sales, which included ringtones which were just about to pop off huge. When "Riden Dirty" became the #1 song in the country, he sold Four Million ringtones, making $1 on each. He then flipped that into property investments, which he then flipped into investing in businesses. It's absolutely incredible.

P made A LOT from No Limit. The label had about 140 releases during the absolute height of the music industry with a promotional rollout that saw him making money hand-over-fist each month with each additional release. He then went into making No Limit Films and No Limit Clothing at the time of the big video store / indie/urban clothing store boom, and had multiple tremendous rivers of revenue.

I remember No Limit Wear, and then started another clothing line called "P. Miller."

Thicke probably had a lot of different revenue streams for residuals. He did a BUNCH of tv theme songs like Diff'rent Strokes, Facts of Life etc. Since most of those had decades of syndication up till even now, he probably got royalties on a pretty regular basis.

*I'm* not surprised because he's my favorite Gunner and I "know" what he's like, but I think most people would probably be shocked to learn how well off Izzy Stradlin is, living off his GNR royalties and being pretty normal with his music and avocado trees. Dude is living the dream, chilling out and doing whatever he wants, and that's awesome.

I had a buddy who used to work at a copy shop in LA and one of the talent agencies used them for duplication services. He said some of the documents they'd bring in had residual amounts listed and it was shocking what some b-listers past their prime were making just in royalties from past projects.
I think once you hit even a moderate level of success, you can milk the royalties, personal appearances, etc. and still do okay.

Someone once asked LeVar Burton why none of the Star Trek: TNG primary cast never really did anything as high profile as the things Patrick Stewart has done. Burton's reply was basically "We don't have to." Royalties and that ever-lucrative convention circuit mean they can all just kick back and pick fun things to work on rather than go scrounging for roles. Gotta be good having that kind of security as an actor.

Gary Glitter- Despite doing some horrible things he still apparently makes a lot of money from his music being used a lot in the USA.

Pauly Shore. He doesn't even do the "annoying Valley Boy" routine anymore. To be fair regardless of his mother's comedic connection. Pauly Shore was absolutely huge in the 90's as he had the look, fashion, and connection with the audience of that particular generation. You couldn't think of that year and not immediately have your mind go to Jennifer McCarthy, Pauly Shore, and even Daisy Fuentes.
