The Alliance of American Football needs to do something to differentiate itself, otherwise it's just a junior varsity version of the NFL. The XFL, as awful as it was, at least had the cache of being a more violent, hard-hitting brand of football with absurd rules and wacky camera angles. The Arena League and other indoor products separate themselves by being played, well, indoors. The Canadian League is on a larger field and has rules that separate it from the American game. But this? This is just a bad, bland, store-brand version of the league we've been watching for the past five months. Well they have come out and said that it is going to be a developmental league. They have the onside conversion that is a different rule (if you go for an onside kick, it's a 4th and 12 you have to convert) Watching the SD/SA game? Bad OL play especially from San Diego (which isn't strange with a Mike Martz team) but it's not hideous football either. Bill Polian said pregame he wants this league to help with developing QB and OL (where he feels there has been bad development overall) and looking at the first half he's not wrong

Atlanta is currently down by 16 at the half. They are playing Matt Simms, who is bad, as their QB. They also have Denard Robinson, who is fun, on their team. I see a very simple solution here.

Kinda wishing they'd switch over to Orlando/Atlanta here. Actually, they would likely take people away from Orlando/Atlanta, considering how Orlando's just running away from the Legends. I know people want to see touchdowns, however. And I don't blame them.

No kickoffs, no 1pt conversions, no TV timeouts, different OT rules, 35 second play clock, and a few others that I'll just post from the site instead of typing them out: aaf.com/notable-rule-differences-for-the-alliances-inaugural

The Apollos are currently winning by more than 17, so we might see the Legends enact that onside conversion rule later in the game.

well one blow out game and one close game perfectly balanced as all things should be. All jokes aside both games were sloppy but i think that was to be expected i'm excited for the rest of the season and will most likely be watching the games tomorrow

I honestly thought they were fun and definitely better than what the XFL 2001 gave us in Week 1
Now, I don't know how the commentary was since I didn't hear it so someone else will have to say how that was.

I caught the second half of the SA/SD game. Both starting QBs and both O-lines had issues, but there were a few players that caught my eye, primarily on defense.
I love the lack of kickoffs, the onside conversion idea, and the generally quicker flow of the game. Some of those ideas should be stolen by the NFL. I do think this style of play will lend itself better to teams that extensively rotate players in and out of the game, which would also reduce injuries.
If this is going to be a development league, then it might be smart for NFL teams to be able to make a deal to allow certain players from their practice squad/futures contract signees to play in the Alliance. I’d say one player per team, at the most.
