I watched this last weekend and I am still in disbelief over the whole situation. I just don't understand how something like it could have actually happened. It's a whole new level of crazy.

These parents are more worried about what people will think than the are their kid. The insular nature of their religious community and the fear of ostracism and obedience that comes from that has to play a role. But still, garbage parents if you consider a parent's role to protect their child.

In hindsight, the mother seems remorseful of her actions. The dad seems to have an “oh well/awshucks” look after every statement.

I wish they delved more into how Jan was able to overcome her abuse and become the composed woman she is now, to the point she can forgive her shitty parents and also help others. It kinda skipped over the 30 year period to get there. She deserved to have that part of her story told, so it'd be more about her triumph than just her abuse.
