I just discovered the current push on Twitter or wherever to defend this guy, and I think I ended up facepalming hard enough to knock my brain out the back of my skull. I just wandered into the comments of a Facebook article on the lawsuit and oh my dear Yevon I just wanted to reach through my screen and slap some people upside the head.

I think a lot of people are in severe denial and incapable of coping with the awful truth. not that it justifies their behaviour AT ALL. times like these I wish twitter wasn't anonymous.

Also, he's pretty homophobic, too. He usually made excuses for it or brushed it off as just not liking Edward yaoi fanart but it was always "where there's smoke, there's fire" things. Just like the creepy behavior.
That's been debunked.

That's been debunked. Considering my source on this is a firsthand account from a lesbian friend of mine and his flipping a switch in behavior once he saw her with her girlfriend, no it hasn't. And it also hasn't been debunked in general just because he used the "some of my friends are gay" excuse. That's like a racist saying he can't be racist because he has a black friend.

All I have heard is he didn't want to sign Yaoi art. And that there is a video of him sticking up for gay people in public against others harassing them. If he is afraid or hating on gay people, that's different. Don't think I have seen too many genuine accounts though of that even your comment is the first mention of it here in this thread so sorry if you've told everyone else here and they already know it

I thought Funimation or their Sony corporate overlords would settle with him out of court just to give him "go away" money without either side needing to admit fault. But their answer to his lawsuit shows they aren't f***ing around and this will probably go pretty badly for ol' Vic.
Also calling him "libel-proof" in their response is, well, damn. That's basically claiming his reputation is so bad that it's impossible to defame him in the legal sense because his reputation can't get any worse.

Once again I can't help thinking this whole thing could have been avoided if he'd just apologized instead of clinging to this "I never did anything wrong" narrative.

Jeeeeezus. You can see exactly when he had to pump the breaks and stop himself from saying "people have been calling me a pedophile for years". So he knows that what he does comes across as creepy, but has just been relying on his obsessive fanbase to keep the accusations at bay. Also, defamation really doesn't work if you can't actually prove you've suffered any damages.

It's going to suck for him when he learns the legal definition of "actual malice", and how it'll be virtually impossible for him to prove. Once again I can't help thinking this whole thing could have been avoided if he'd just apologized instead of clinging to this "I never did anything wrong" narrative. He backed himself into a corner. Once the dipshits raised funds for him to sue, he couldn't back down and went for it, and with a lawyer who had no idea what the hell he was getting himself into. It's been a glorious mess.

Ugh, on Twitter there are lot of people going to die on a hill made up of piles of shit.
Why do people go to these lengths to defend creeps?

Because people somehow find it hard to look at people the way they are instead of the way they think he is In their heads, he is one of their favorite voice actors who brought life to characters and is being unfairly picked on is what I would guess to assume

It's like they can't divorce Vic from the characters he played or something. As a dub guy myself, it sucks to see this play out as it has because Vic has voiced so many of my favorite anime characters over the years. But that said it's not like say Ouran High School Host Club is ruined forever just because Vic is a POS. These people seem to think that admitting Vic is shitty means they can't like shows he did anymore, which is just stupid.

His fans on youtube are really doing mental gymnastics over the deposition. They are ignoring the rather creepy part said by vic, and just focusing on his comments about funimation.
They are some really delusional people.

Bleach, of all things, said it best. "Admiration is the furthest thing from understanding." People being big fans of Vic can often let it blind them to his faults, or rationalize things to avoid the truth that's looking them in the eye.
That's not even getting into that some people are just seriously uncomfortable with the idea of men being held accountable for shit they pulled, for one reason or another.
