I really just can't even fathom how there are still so many people defending this jackass.

Reading about this made me disappointed that the voice of Hiei and Android 17 not only supports Vic but also is a Flat Earther.
And a further update: 11 of the 14 claims of the suit have been outright dismissed from the bench, including everything against Marchi. Only things remaining are the counts of defamation against Funimation, Rial, and Toye. Judge has also ruled that Vic is a Limited Purpose Public Figure, which means his case for defamation is now even harder to prove compared to private citizens. Combine that with his legal counsel's almost hilarious incompetence and it's a real uphill battle for him.
Oh, and Vic now has to pay for all of Marchi's legal fees too.

Not a lawyer... but wouldn't that be contempt? Or did it not happen during an in-session trial?

If he hired Billy Jack Haynes as his lawyer, this really wouldn't have played out much differently. If he hired Haynes as his lawyer, it might've worked out better.

....... I didn’t go to law school, but I’m pretty sure talking to a judge like that is a remarkably poor legal decision.

Apparently Ty Beard’s performance in court was so clownish and so ridiculous you’d think it was high class satire had it not been an actual case that multiple people in attendance compared it to seeing an Ace Attorney trial in person.
Oh and there is also scuttlebutt going around that Ty might lose his license between his highly illegal actions over the holiday weekend(forging affidavit notary signatures is suffice to say a major no no) and his actions in court.

I am inclined to think Ty will escape with his license, but then again, I never dreamed Vic's representation would be THIS incompetent. So... who knows what will happen? In any case, this will be a devastating to his professional reputation, such as it is.

I'd be surprised if Ty "Somehow less competent than Winston Payne" Beard didn't face some sort of jail time, considering he already has an offense on his record. Also wouldn't be surprised if the Texas Bar Association considers disbarring him.

I kind of just love the fact that this is the lawyer that was gotten with the money Vic's idiot fans raised.

I kind of just love the fact that this is the defense that was gotten with the money Vic's idiot fans raised. Which included Ty claiming to be an expert in defamation law at one point, despite never having handled a defamation case prior to this.

I have no real investment in this story but as a former resident of Tyler, Texas, I want to say....that's what you get for hiring a lawyer from Tyler.

He dead ass went and updated his site to include defamation law as part of his specialties after the fact.

Been following the whole thing via Resetera. It's like a train wreck you can't look away from.
