Got the biggest crowd heat a WWE worker has managed to get in years. That segment is still amazing and frustrating at the same time. That baffled me as he and owens were just randomly now babyfaces the next week.Elias has turned and forth probably 10 times since then.

Low card comedy gimmicks who get on tv a lot go back to the 80s in WWF/E. He... really isn't low card though? That's a confusing aspect of it, he's routinely portrayed as a serious threat, hangs with the main-eventers on the regular, he just... doesn't actually do anything. This. It's for this reason that I consider Elias a step above the Adam Roses and Fandangos of the world. Elias can go against main event guys in segments and even in matches at times. He can do stuff. In retrospect, the thing about him that separates him beyond those other guys similar to him is that besides the fact he can generate bigger reactions, he's got a decent character. He's not just a gimmick, he really feels like a dude who does this thing that can we see play different roles if those roles come to. We can see him use this to evolve to greater heights, we can see him adapt. He's got it. That's the worst part about it because Elias is the perfect example of the musical/dancing/comedy/one note midcarder that's done right and yet they're not capitalizing on it. We should be on an "Elias IC World Tour" right now where Elias is defending that belt weekly pissing off fans and wrestlers alike but we get a Kalisto segment.
Like WWE finally gets this kind of guy over to where they can do something and they're out here having him mingle with the Lucha House Party. We've said they know how to waste guys who are great in the ring but this is one of the first times that I can recall wasting one of these kinds of stars these past 10 years. They've been trying for the longest to get them over and when they finally do they let him sit out there.

Thank you. Been saying that for a while because yeah, I like his character and he can cut a promo but he's like a midcard Samoa Joe. He's great on the mic but he doesn't really do shit, doesn't win anything, he's just "there doing stuff." He's been on the main roster for 2 years and he hasn't accomplished a thing. That's cool and all but we need more. Granted, I'll give him his props for being on a higher tier than the Adam Roses of the world but when that tier's just stopped it doesn't mean anything. You know, apparently Elias was scheduled to win the IC Title from Rollins mid last year due to Ambrose turning heel and interfering in the match but they held off on that and THEN had Ambrose do the heel turn on the night of Roman's leukemia announcement. Man, it's crazy how one potential heel turn can change so many storylines. Through these past 5 years that "Ambrose might turn heel" thing has impacted more things than I can count whether it's Elias winning a title, Ambrose main eventing multiple WMs against Reigns, Ambrose causing issues in that Wyatt feud, just so many things. I might make a thread on it but I digress. Either way nah, Elias ain't shit. He's a broken record and I mean that as a pun.
I went from "almost bought his T-shirt but backed out due to Canadian tax problems" to "rather read a book when he's on TV" in only a few months.
Isn't this almost exactly what happened to Brodus Clay?

true. WWE is far more generous with Elias (i.e. promo time) than with Brodus.

Yep. He's given way more to do and yet he's still in this position. Yeah the gimmick works and all but he needs to evolve it.

I love the CONCEPT of Elias, but every time I've actually stopped to take a look at the dude, he just does nothing for me. Not sure what that is.

When I think about it, the main reason I don't care about Elias that much anymore is that after however so many hours of TV, some dude with a guitar rambling about shit is like actual death, even if he's really good at it. Like, I've been through what feels like a billion years of nothing, shut the f*** up beardman.

I think when I first noticed him on the main roster (as a very sporadic watcher), he was having a bit of a thing with Cena and I thought, 'wow, they're really treating this guy seriously, after NXT weren't too interested'. But no, a week or two later, he was just getting the crowd to boo so someone else could come out and get cheered.
It's a shame, because he's a really good character, with a great gimmick. And even if he's boring in the ring, he's a heel so it works. But the WWE are committed into riding this thing into the ground and then beating its corpse, until Elias gets repackaged as a Serious Wrestler Man and disappears.

For the question asked... the answer to that is Bray Wyatt.
Say random gibberish for years... never really did anything or have any kinda purpose outside of shit we don't know how to end this feud... SEND OUT BRAY!
and it's been literally the same nonsensical schtick for like 7 years...
I think the only thing he has to show for it is a WWE title reign that no one remembers and only existed os he could get squashed by Randy at Mania.

So I ask you, has there ever been anyone so heavily featured that has done less than Elias has? The Bushwhackers and Hillbilly Jim come to mind.

He doesn’t wrestle PPV matches often. His main job is to mess with the crowd and get beat up. I don’t think he is portrayed as a serious threat at all. He got beat up by a guy who once held Vince hostage for money.

I will say this... in 10, 15 years when rest of the rosters bodies feel 20 years older than they are, Elias will have a spring in his step (and continue to sing as a wep?). Not a bad spot to have unless he is one of those "posed with belts as a kid" wrestlers.

In less than two months Elias will have been on the Raw roster for two years. This is mind blowing.

When it comes to on camera time, I wonder what the ratio of holding/playing guitar time is to the amount of actual in-ring time in the last 2 yrs.

In a way,Braun?
He feuded with Roman but besides that, everything the guy does has no effect in WWE or is swipped off under the rug and never relevant in a week. His tag title run is..well basically non-existant and his GRR Win is never brought up or used for anything.
I think his whole career has been Losing to Roman/Brock and beating Corbin.

He's a waste of time. The problem with Elias is that his sort of gimmick has a shelf life. In the territory days he could have taken this shtick all around the country and not worn out his welcome for years. But when you see him rambling and being interrupted while singing every week on TV it can't help but get tiresome. It doesn't help that he basically sucks as a wrestler.

Good show of how little Elias matters, tonight Kalisto wasn't even slightly annoyed over having a guitar broken over him and I don't think the commentators even mentioned it.

Kalisto: "Hey guys, you ready for our tag match tonight?" Gran Metallik: "Wait, aren't we going to get back at Elias?" Kalisto: "For what?" Lince Dorado: "Dude, he broke a guitar over your back last week." Kalisto: "Oh yeah... Nah! It's just Elias, f*** that guy!" Gran Metallik: "True tho."
