Seconded. My biggest fear is losing him, because he was absolutely tremendous. I never thought I'd say this but that movie really needed more Jai Courteney Yeah, the general vibe he gave off felt like the aesthetic the film as a whole should've gone for: dude wakes up getting tossed out of a bag and immediately starts decking people, grabs and downs a beer when nobody's looking, but still won't go anywhere without his trusty security plush toys or whatever...seriously, that's a stylized, comic book version of the Dirty Dozen approach right there, which was what that whole thing should've been aiming for.

So, I haven't seen Suicide Squad, and - correct me if I'm wrong, but the vibe I'm getting in this thread is that it's not worth seeing. Okay, basically what happened was David Ayer was given six weeks to write a shooting script from scratch so it could be rushed into production. Then at the last minute he was told to crowbar Joker into the thing. He shot and edited the movie, and it was similar in tone to Batman v Superman - gritty, dark, and with very sparse humour. The negative reception that BVS got, especially regarding its tone, had the WB execs freaking out, and this was exacerbated by the first Suicide Squad trailer not being particularly representative of the movie. So they sent Ayer back to do a ton of reshoots (minus Will Smith, resulting in Deadshot suddenly wearing his mask in some scenes, and a CGI Will Smith face on a body double in others), adding almost all of the humour that wound up in the finished product, before having the company that edited the trailer come in and do a second edit of the entire movie, incorporating the reshoot material. For a while both Ayer's original cut and the trailer cut were tested with audiences, and when it became clear that audiences preferred the first half of the trailer cut and the second half of the Ayer cut, WB literally just stitched the two halves together rather than try to make a cohesive cut from both.

He never should have come back after Flagg gave them the option to bail and he took it. That scene was perfect.

Retcon her as Jack Napier's daughter. Wasn't that the original pitch for the cancelled third Schumacher movie?

Retcon her as Jack Napier's daughter. Wasn't that the original pitch for the cancelled third Schumacher movie? Yep I'd still like to see that movie, in animated form. Joel Schumacher's Gotham is still my favourite incarnation of the cityscape. Loved all the massive buidlings, roads held up by statues and neon colours.

I want to see that version of Gotham revisited in some form.

Thank goodness.
We are already getting one Joker movie, one that looks genuinely good, we don't need a second Joker movie.
Not sad to see Leto losing his spot as the Joker either. He just wasn't very good.
Similarly I'm not wild on Robbie's Harley at all, so I'm cool with the new Suicide Squad movie divorcing itself from her and all remnants of the DCCU.
Let her have her fifty other million movies that will sate those that do enjoy her.
Edited And I just saw the tweet above. Balls.

He just wasn't very good. That's putting it mildly. As bland as the Young Justice version, as unneeded a redesign as The Batman version. Not a good combo.

Suicide Squad is a weird case where the movie got a lot of flack, and understandably so, but also has some big fans of it (most of whom didn't really like Leto's Joker, so that doesn't help). It did, however, make a lot of money, and I think is in third or fourth place on the profitability of these movies. So, some kind of follow up feels like it ought to be a given, but I am very glad it's not the Leto film. Guess we'll see how Birds of Prey goes. I’m a big fan of the movie. My issue with Joker was that he wasn’t needed in the film. Really didn’t serve a purpose. Didn’t hate Leto as he wasn’t in enough scenes to make an impression. I’m a big fan of Robbie’s Harley Quinn so I hope she returns.

I want to see Batman Triumphant, which always sounded cooler than Batman Unchained or Unleashed or whatever shit it was supposed to be called.
