1970 (Part 1)--The Horror of Frankenstein


All right, time to finish up the first year of one of the decades considered the greatest for horror, the 1970's. This poll will be covering the second half of horror/related movies from 1970. Vote for your favorite movie from this year, and, as always, explain your choice (if you like), as well as mention any other movies you might have seen on this list, below.

We will also accept Write in Votes (although, please mention it as such) for movies not included on the list I'm getting the choices off of. However, I will not remove any from the list (I can't by that point), so, if you want to make your case why a certain movie isn't a horror film, make it. Hell, you might end up swaying a few voters from going in that direction, but I can't/won't remove it from the list or DQ it.

The top two (and Scream and Scream Again) are from the Sci-Fi list, which is why the first two were not included alphabetically in the first half of 1970. With the next list, I will start to merge the two lists together to keep it all alphabetic.

THE VAMPIRE LOVERS features Ingrid Pitt as a beautiful lesbian vampire who seduces the also beautiful Madeline Smith. And it's ALSO a Hammer production, even if Christopher Lee doesn't show up (though Peter Cushing is on hand as the father of one of Pitt's previous victims). It gets my vote.

Wizard of Gore is interesting but I prefer the remake.

Lesbian Vampires for the win, as The Vampire Lovers goes on to the second round. I will say that in addition to there being a crapton of vampire movies on this part of the list (and not just because part of the list is movies that start with the letter "V"). We also have two more Christopher Lee Dracula movies, a Paul Naschy werewolf movie that has his long suffering lead character fighting with a vampire queen, and the first of two theatrical movies for the (then) long running DARK SHADOWS television show.


I will say that Tim Burton must have just watched this movie as his research for what would become his Dark Shadows movie, as House of Dark Shadows is pretty much a serious version of a good chunk of Burton's DS.


I will also say that I had voted for I Drink Your Blood, which...isn't a good movie, but it's a damn entertaining one. A group of satanic hippies wind up getting infected with Rabies(!!!), and running amok on a small town. It's definitely a fun one to watch with a six pack and/or a bag of a certain green substance.
