Inspired by the Funko thread. I'm fascinated by what people are drawn to and why, and the stories behind how they started or what certain ones mean to them. But I've never really managed to start any kind of collection of my own.
I have always liked the idea of being a collector of something, but my due to my life growing up (moving frequently, being extremely poor), I just don't get attached to material possessions and live very free of "stuff". Don't get me wrong, I like nice things, it's just that I stick to the nice things I own being practical, and not much in the way of "I own this just because I like it."
I guess the closest I get to having any real collection would be instruments, but again, that's all practicality for me. I'm a musician, those are the tools of my trade. And for a guy who does this professionally, my collection is very modest. I own 7 guitars:
2 Ibanez GRX20Ls, one of which I have owned for over 21 years, my first electric which was a 13th birthday present
2 Epiphone Les Pauls
2 Douglas SIV45s
Ibanez Acoustic, I don't remember the model, I don't even really like the guitar and bought it for the specific reason of having something that I didn't mind getting beat up on the road, but would allow me to write while traveling
I also own 2 drum kits:
Rogers Prospector series- I would guess this kit is probably circa 2004-05, just before the brand went defunct again under Yamaha's ownership. I got them used from a local dude on Craigslist. I love the kit (the snare is a BEAST) and was SO excited when I got them because I had always wanted a Rogers kit, but could never afford the vintage prices. This was an awesome way to experience a little of that Rogers magic.
Pearl Masters Maple Complete- Just bought these on December 30th, and my god...I'm in love. These things just sound incredible, and they look cool as hell in their green, "Absinthe Sparkle" finish, as Pearl calls it.
So, what about you guys? What do you collect? Why? Whasupwitdat?

Besides comics, movies and books...got fairly large collections of all of the three.
I collect Pez. Somehow the 30 or so Pez dispensers I got as a kid survived, and I started buying new ones as they came out.
Last count, done almost 2 years ago,I had 900+. More than likely have hit 1000 by now.
The one issue is displaying them. I use to,back when I had 500 or so,use safety tack to stick them to the wall in my office / collection room. Since I moved 10 years ago I keep 10 to 15 Holliday ones out. Then got 30 I can fit on top one shelf. Those get rotated every month.
Oldest one I own is a mid 70s Small head Spidey.

Pokemon cards which I've been into since I was 11 and of I have full Base and Jungle sets and am working on the other older sets when I have a few dollars to spare since most are fairly cheap on Amazon)
Funko Pops which I started collecting when my friend Emily gave me my first for Christmas, which was Snape from Harry Potter because she knew I was pretty devastated by Alan Rickman's death that year,
WWE action figures, which my brother bought me a couple when I was 13 and I started buying more about 2013

Gundam model kits, though I have slowed on that a little to focus on action figure collecting, mostly DC but some other stuff as well.

I guess it qualifies, but music. I’d still rather buy a used CD or pay for something on iTunes than use Spotify or Pandora.

Does drier lint count? Because I seem to have a lot of it in the laundry area.

Movies are my main collection point, mostly in the horror genre ranging from the silent films of the 10's and 20's through the Universal monster films of the 30's and 40's to Hammer and Hitchcock in the 50's and 60's to the slasher era of the 70's and 80's. I love nothing more than going out hunting for new films I've heard of but never seen or discovering something completely new to me
My other big collection is mini figures, I have 5 shelves in one of my wardrobe units with each shelf dedicated to a genre or franchise, a WWE one with Mighty Minis, Rumblers, Stack Down, Funko Mystery Minis, those bargain non articulate action figures released a few years back and my Sting retro figure, a Marvel/DC shelf with a Hulk action figure, mini statues, Pint Size Heroes, Heroclix, Mega Bloks, Tsum Tsums, Lego and a unique skeletal Clark Kent bust I got on holiday a few years back, a Transformers shelf with Kre-os, Tiny Turbo Chargers, TF30 Minis, Scout Class action figures and die cast models of Optimus, Galvatron and Grimlock, a movie/tv shelf with my Star Wars Bust-ups, Stormtrooper mini statue, Simpsons figures and Lego's, Mario, Luigi and Pacman figures, a Mr Stay Puft Titan figure, Mystery Minis of Sheldon and Bernadette from TBBT, Thunderbird 2 (from the Thunderbirds revival series) and the Flintstone mobile and the last shelf is dedicated to TMNT, Power Rangers, the big head football figurines (UK FANners will know what I'm on about) and 3 custom made Kamen Rider Lego figures I got at a local Comic Con last year

Compact Discs. I’m at well over eleven hundred.
Also Star Wars action figures, but that’s tapered off since the Disney purchase. They put out a crap collection on figures and they’re crap quality.

I started reading comic digitally a couple years ago, but I have thousands of them at my parents house in comic boxes. Although I don't get the news ones physically, I do pick up a few older ones here and there to add to the collection.
I have hundreds of wrestling DVDs and Blu Rays. I don't get many nowadays, though.
Books are an obsession. I read so much, as does my girlfriend. I'm an English teacher and she was an English major, so we have thousands of books on our bookshelves.
I recently started collecting records. I don't listen to them as much as I'd like, but I enjoy getting classic albums to add to the collection.
I have some statues of comic book characters and whatnot. I'd like to have so many more!
I collect old wrestling figures and have almost all the ones I want.
I don't collect ones that I didn't use myself, but I keep all my tickets to events - sports, wrestling, even movies. They are all in separate boxes and I'm thinking about doing a scrapbook down the road for them all.
I guess that's about it. For now!

I don’t consider myself a “collector,” but I own 200ish baseball hats.
The most hats of a single team I have is, I think, 12 Raptors hats.

I have 3 chock full bookcases of books.
It's small but I've started a wine and liquor bottle collection.
I have a couple of dozen finished puzzles I should get framed.
And I like to buy all those Hot Wheels cars I could never have as a kid.

I used to have serious movie and album collections, but they were such a pain in the ass to haul them around, so I got rid of them. I used to be a serious sneaker collector, but I downsized greatly in that too. I still have a lot, and buy new pairs, but it is just ones I like and I wear them all. I kind of collect autograph pictures of cool people I meet, I hang them all up in my bathroom. I kind of have a collection of the Marvel hip hop covers, I pick them up whenever I see them around.
