WWE only tells good stories when they fall ass backwards into them.

I'll say that in the case of the SD world title scene it seems clear to me that Bryan is lobbying pretty hard to use his time as champion to help push other guys up the card. He clearly had some things in mind for Ali before the injury, and now Kofi's finally getting his big chance in the spotlight, and I don't think it's at all a coincidence that Bryan, not far removed from contract negotiations where he likely got to dictate a lot of terms including some level of creative input, is holding the belt at a time when these guys are getting nudged higher on the card.

I suggested in another thread that Rollins and Ambrose should make up again, and a few weeks down the line, Brock paralyzes Ambrose and leave him in hospital, ending his career. We get the whole Rocky vs Drago story with Ambrose being Apollo Creed.... the best thing about this? when Ambrose comes back, you have that awesome red hot feud waiting with Lesnar. You could do a segment where Rollins is talking to a vegetative Ambrose in the hospital bed, where he promises to end Brock for good. I think this sounds fantastic but then I realize WWE don’t really do actual stories like this. It’s actually be kinda cool, but feigning paralysis is kind of a scary angle to run. Maybe have him just get his ass locked and do a stretcher job

Their ability to tell a story in ring storytelling during a match they have down pretty well but also helps that thanks to plenty of hoarding have amassed the best roster in their history.
But trying to tell a story built through vingettes is where they becomes trancers 4 ,5,6.
I half hearted jokingly pointed out lastnight about Brauns promo about him calling...lashley , mcintyre , corbin cowards.....the same cowards he was aligned with just a few months ago and doing the same cowardly acts.
That might be a nitpick to alot of people but to me details like are why stories completely fall apart and are so shit in this company.

i pick the one night where there was genuine good storytelling in the two chamber matches. My point remains though Yeah, you weren't wrong. WWE have been great at telling in-match stories for a long time now. Even stories across the course of a night, as we saw last night. It's telling coherent, compelling, episodic stories week-to-week where they continually fall down. It admittedly must be incredibly difficult to do given their schedule and airtime, but I'd say they're unlikely to get any better at that while Vince remains in charge; it's well-documented how erratic he can be.

*Looks at the women's divisions* *Looks at the last chamber match* .... Uh, it's still there. It's still there, but notice that both of those scenarios weren't intentional. Becky blew up as a mega babyface after they stupidly tried turning her heel. They just wanted her to be a filler feud for Super Charlotte on her way to WrestleMania. And Kofi? That only happened because Mustafa Ali was injured. Otherwise, he wasn't even on the card. Now he's the most over babyface on SmackDown because fans have always found him endearing despite a decade of shitty booking. So yeah, good storytelling still happens, but only when their original stupid ideas get derailed.

That's two strikes against it right there.

It's good that there's a couple of good stories going on in WWE. I'm not being snarky in saying that, anything good that comes out of the company can be appreciated.
But at the same time there's by my count roughly 8-12 hours of television they produce each week. Having 1 or 2 good hours in a week doesn't really cut it if you really want to argue they're doing a good job right now.

I remember wayyy back when they announced they were moving away from storyline driven programming so the product would be easier to follow for people in non-English speaking countries. It worked for them for a while but looking at the ratings, people want storylines and not just long, pointless matches.
