February 10, 2000 Smackdown -Turning the Radicals heel has done wonders in terms of making them threats. -Did not ever know Val Venis was European champion. He could have done the penis gimmick that Joey Ryan does now. -Bubba puts B.B. through a table. Bubba protected Terri when he did it to her, but he freaking drilled poor B.B. -Al Snow and Steve Blackman are a very underrated mix matched team. -Just saw a commercial for WWF.com that was 15 seconds of a guy picking his nose. The hell? -Jericho gets more and more popular every week he is on. -X-Pac teams with Triple H in a handicap match against Kane. X-Pac is still terrified of Kane despite owning him every step of the way in their feud. -The amount of times Kane is referred to as the Big Red Retard is really shocking. -Cole repeating buzz words is so not a new development. DX wanted to go after the guys who opposed them on Raw and Cole has said "divide and conquer" so many times I have lost count. -Crowd loses their minds for Kane threatening to chokeslam Tori, boos loudly when he lets her go, then blows the roof off the arena when he picks her up and tombstones her instead. 2000 was a very different time. -All the while, Hunter, Stephanie, and X-Pac stay outside the ring and yell. Nothing is actually stopping them from getting in the ring.
February 14, 2000 Nitro -Apparently this show had some technical difficulties. Not related to the run time sadly because it's 2 hours and 3 damn minutes. -Jarrett tried so so hard to get Slap Nuts over. -He tried to get stroke over a lot too. -The Wolfpac music is still awesome. -Norman Smiley vs. 3 Count is a real feud. -Lacey Evans is just the modern day Miss Hancock. She comes out, does nothing and leaves. -I stand corrected. She gets on the announce table and dances. Takes forever to actually distract the guys. This leads to 3 Count losing, but really she should have distracted Lenny Lane since he's who she has the problem with. -They really try and get this Tank Abbot-Big Al feud over. They're feuding over a jacket. -There was a tournament to crown a new cruiserweight champion. I'm starting to wonder if they've forgotten about it. Correction. They've just relegated it to Thunder purgatory. -Oh God. Oklahoma. Kill me now. Couldn't the OK on his shirt in the scratch WWF logo be copyright infringement? -The Mamalukes are having a wedding reception backstage. I don't know why. -It is actively uncomfortable watching Terry Funk wrestle. -Daffney is really really annoying. -The announcers talk about Kiss announcing their farewell tour. They are still touring to this day. -Of course they would trot out Michael Buffer for a Flair vs Hogan Nitro match that isn't even the main event. -Hogan poses and poses while Luger stands behind him waiting for Hogan to turn around. Lex clearly tells Hogan to turn around three times, but Hogan waited forever to finally turn around. I'm positive he did that on purpose. -At least they kept Buffer around to do the introductions for Sid vs Jarrett for the US title. -They keep coming up with stupid ways for Mickey Jay to get taken out. First, he stands right behind Scott Hall when he picks Sid up for the Edge. Then he does the same when Sid is about to powerbomb Jarrett. He acts like he got poked in the eye and it obviously didn't happen.

February 14, 200 Raw -Tori comes out with DX wearing a neck brace after being tombstoned by Kane. She still makes sure to wear a skimpy halter top though. -They set up the same divide and conquer thing as on Smackdown just with different matches. -It really helped Too Cool's credibility by having them mix it up with top level talent. The depth of the tag division around this time really is amazing. E&C, Hardys, Dudleys, Too Cool, Outlaws, Head Cheese, APA, Godfather & D-Lo. T&A will join them soon. All distinct and all credible. -I'm convinced Teddy Long has the Benjamin Button disease. -Mark Henry and Mae Young are having a Valentine's Day tryst in a hotel. I was gonna say it's weird that they seem fine with the camera man being there, but they are obviously a kinky couple. Mae wears a pair of Tutti Frutti edible panties. This angle is terrible, but somehow really hilarious. -Benoit beats Rock thanks to Big Show. Ending is all messed up because Hebner takes forever to count the pin. That Smackdown aside, the booking for the Radicals has actually been pretty good. -Tazz had a really hot debut, but he became nothing really fast. -Rikishi does the first on air Stinkface to Malenko and Saturn. Bit of trivia there. -Something I've begun to notice. The crowds loose their minds at the end of these shows because something huge is bound to happen. Cactus Jack and Rock both come out to help Kane and fight off the heels. This has happened a lot, but the crowd is always hot for it no matter what.

February 17, 2000 Smackdown -Mark Henry is very much why the angle with Mae Young was any fun. He's giving it 100% -I am surprised they never went into more of a romantic angle with Chyna and Jericho. -DX attack and throw Kane and Paul Bearer into their bus and tell the bus to just drive. What really is the plan? -The APA playing poker with Mae is absolutely hilarious. -Now DX have taken Cactus Jack away in the bus. Raw seems to end with the faces on top while Smackdown ends with the faces on top. -Albert was getting "Shave Your Back" chants even in 2000. -Wow Rock was stupid. Supposed to be him and Big Show vs the Outlaws for the titles. Show never shows up until Rock is about to win. Rock has a pin on Billy, Show's music hits and Rock breaks his own pin. -Rock is the only one to avoid the Bus ride to Hell by exiting out the other side of the baggage area.

Thunder was so bad around this time yohre really not missing much Why wouldn't you want to see Bret Hart get a concussion in an atrocious hardcore match with Terry Funk for no reason?

Had a bunch of notes, then technology failed me. Superbrawl 2000 has sucked horribly. Now I have to listen to Daffney screaming and I want to kill myself. Finally had enough and muted the sound. Daffney has broken me. Any time I see her appear, I am turning the sound off. This show sucks is really the bottom line.

Superbrawl 2000 was the first wrestling show I owned on VHS, because I was 14 and my parents wouldn't let me get a 15 or an 18.
It's a truly terrible show.
However, I will always mark for Lash Leroux.

Superbrawl 2000 was the first wrestling show I owned on VHS, because I was 14 and my parents wouldn't let me get a 15 or an 18. It's a truly terrible show. However, I will always mark for Lash Leroux. It really was a terrible show. Especially seeing Hogan, Luger, Flair, and Funk geezer it up and down the ring. February 21, 2000 Nitro -Lot of wrestlers working with broken arms in WCW at this point. Seems like a very unsafe work environment. -Luger vs. Hogan in a last man standing cage match. The rules are the same as a normal cage match though so not sure what the point of it is. -30 minutes into the show, which is almost 1 hour in actual TV time, There's been 3 matches. 2 ended in a DQ and a Harris Bros. beatdown. I am really not a fan of the Harris' being all over this show. They still have a match later. -Jarrett is a really terrible promo. He repeats the same catchphrase that he's trying to get over way too many times. -Dustin Rhodes turns on Funk. They just got together so who really gives a damn? -"What decade is this?" sign in the crowd. Good compliment to the "I thought this was WWF" sign at Superbrawl the night before. -Luger says he and Hogan wrestled the night before for 15 minutes. Their match didn't even go 10. -The crowd is making so much noise for Hogan, I can't fathom why.

Speaking of fan signs at Uncensored 2000 at the end of the live pre-show there’s a long camera shot where they zoom in on one fans sign that reads “I wish I was at Wrestlemania instead”.

There was a period where Thunder was just one step up from Saturday night in terms of imporantance. During Russo's start they had Zybysko pretty much bury the show to him saying no one important was on it. At the time i pretty much agreed but in retrospect that doesn't make a lot of sense. I think the idea was that they started bringing back the star power but it seems an odd way to do it.
WCW was actually starting to turn a corner at the end, a lot of the older guys were being phased out and there were several promising young guys. If the company had continued a couple more years, I think we'd all be singing a different tune.

Was excited about today's news about Thunder, but I think from the number of shows, I think only from August 99 until the end of 99 will be uploaded so I'll still be only watching Nitro, Raw, Smackdown and the PPVs.
February 21, 2000 Raw -They're in the Georgia Dome. Weird seeing Raw held in such a huge building. Not sure how full it is though. -Sounds like DX just left Cactus, Kane, and Paul Bearer out in the middle of nowhere after kidnapping them on Smackdown. -Cactus says that while hitchhiking, he was picked up by a trucker who also picked up Kane and Bearer. This was about 1,000 times shorter than Undertaker's weird promo about leaving Big Show in the desert and significantly more logical. -Always weird hearing Angle's music without also hearing "You suck" along with it. -Looks like a good portion of the arena is blocked off. It does look like any other arena Raw could be in. -Edge, Christian, and the Hardy's vs. Outlaws and Dudleys. Bubba hits Gunn with a chair and Jeff gets the pin. But Christian pulls Jeff out of the ring so Edge, the legal man can get the pin, but Hebner counted the 3 anyway and calls the match. This is supposed to start sowing the seeds of problems between the Hardy's, Edge, and Christian. Christian pulls Jeff out at 2, but Hebneris so focused on his count that he doesn't realize no one is pinning Billy Gunn anymore. So Earl messed that up real bad. -Holly clotheslines Mae and then Viscera splashes her. Mae earned her money in 1999 and 2000, let me tell you. -Radicals were way better off as heels. -WWE made me really excited to watch their PPV. I was dreading watching WCW's.

February 24, 2000 Smackdown
-Test vs. Crash Holly for the Hardcore title. Test started the year kind of hot, but was barely used once he won the hardcore title. -Crash wins the title and the greatest Hardcore Champion begins his reign. -Big Show is a great heel. Actually has good reason for not liking Rock. No one likes being called a Jabroni. -I really miss how wrestlers used to interact. Angle comes out to defend Big Show and shake his hand and Show genuinely appreciates the gesture. Everyone now is so phony and robotic. -Lot of references to the XFL, God the times really never change, oddly though, the promos are mainly on Smackdown instead of Raw. -I'll be honest, I think this couple month run of Foley as Cactus Jack is the best stuff he ever did. Promos were incredible, the storytelling was great, matches were awesome. -Lot of bus play on Smackdown these last few weeks. Smackdown ends with Foley in a cage being dragged away by the DX Express.

No Way Out 2000 -Angle wins the IC title and celebrates the whole night. -I now realize Billy Gunn was hurt before the title match with the Dudleys. I wonder if the Dudley's winning was always the plan or if Billy's injury changed things. -Something WWE has really failed at is giving people goofy gimmicks while still giving them moments of being bad asses. Mark Henry is in a relationship with Mae Young. It's ridiculous. But he comes out for a match with Viscera and looks like he's out for blood and he's a big, scary man. Yes, he's involved in something ridiculous, but he is still a wrestler and can still kick all the ass. WWE now just can't figure that out. -I like that APA gets hired by faces and heels alike. As long as you got money, they are happy boys. -Not surprising, Edge, Christian, and the Hardys have a really awesome, fun match. -Terri turns on Matt and Jeff. Matt threatens Terri and gets his and Jeff's asses kicked by the APA. This is where that moment where Jeff doesn't go up for the Dominator right comes from. -Big Show vs. Rock is very interesting. Big Show has a perfectly valid point about Rock's feet hitting the floor first, Rock even admits as much. Big Show is still a whiny bitch though. If they did this now, the fans would 100% side with the heel and the face would come off as the asshole. -Crowd is not feeling Bossman or Albert. -Kane assaults Tori and X-Pac insists on bringing her out with him for his match with Kane instead of leaving her in the back guarded by the 3 other guys he runs with. -X-Pac again beats Kane in a match. This is such a weird feud. Kane beats the hell out of X-Pac any time they are near each other, but X-Pac wins every match. -Hunter and Cactus took their street fight from the Rumble and turned it up another level for Hell in the Cell. -Triple H's foot falls through the corner of the Cell and I freaked out. -Triple H is a much more nuanced heel than I remember. Cactus falls through the Cell roof and he's not thrilled or laughing about it like Stephanie is. He's in shock. He's almost reluctant at putting the nail in the coffin. He doesn't revel in his victory. He's not just a cartoon villain.

February 28, 2000 Nitro -I've been watching 3 straight WWE shows. Good shows. Now I have to watch Nitro and I feel very very sad. -Sid vs. Tank Abbott for the title. I'm already cringing at how terrible that match must be. -Any time someone calls the Mamalukes by that name, they or Disco get mad and say they are called the Paizans. It's an endless running gag because there is never a name change. -Hancock again dances on the announce desk. This time Johnny the Bull and Lenny Lane actually give her dollars. 2000 was a different time folks. -Vito gets Hancock in the ring to dance. Johnny humps her from behind and she is NOT ok with this. -Buff's gimmick is literally that he keeps trying to hook up with hot women and they turn him down. -HOLY SHIT!!! THE YAPAPI STRAP MATCH PROMO!!!!!!!!! -Madden says that after seeing that promo, he thinks Hogan has some serious mental problems. Might be the most accurate thing he has ever said. -Ric Flair was for sure done with this company by this point, but damn if he still isn't the most entertaining person in this company. -They're doing these talking heads for Sid vs Tank as if it's some legendary dream match. Tank has not ever faced anyone of importance. His feuds thus far have been against Jerry Flynn and Big Al. -Seeing Meng talk perfect English is so so weird. -They keep cutting to this woman in the crowd who is dancing and she is clearly hammered. Only way to enjoy this show. -About a month after Bret Hart has to retire due to concussions, they do a concussion angle with Sid. Classy. -Sid uses the crossface to make Tank tap out. Not as awful as I expected, but it was mostly just Tank beating up Sid, Sid has a 5 second comeback and wins.

God help me, I'm going to watch the 4 episodes of Thunder they have from 2000.
January 6, 2000 Thunder -Madusa is defending her cruiserweight title against Asya. Madusa wins and is by far a more successful cruiserweight wrestler than she was a women's wrestler in WCW. -I really can't stand how often Jarrett says "Slapnut, Slapass, or Slappy". Cole saying "It's Boss Time!" is so much more tolerable. -Terry Funk is searching for Arn after the NWO kidnapped him. I mean literal kidnapping and torture. Another segment of this and the NWO could be sent before a tribunal in The Hague. -Funk crosses paths with David Flair and before anything happens, they cut straight to the ring. It's a reverse TNA. -Funk and David attack and hold Jarrett hostage in exchange for Arn. Nash and Co. bring Arn out and threaten to throw Arn off the stage to the cement below. A drop of maybe 3 feet. -Funk is the man in charge but he really seems to have no real power. -Stevie Ray vs. Midnight. This match has lasted longer than any other one on the show so far tonight. Stevie Ray loses via small package. -The stipulation was that if Midnight won, Harlem Heat would reunite with Midnight. Stevie loses and lays out Booker and Midnight right after rendering the entire match pointless. -Ewwwwwwwww horny Mean Gene. -Not really sure who the face is supposed to be between DDP and Bagwell. Bagwell is hinting and messing around with Kimberly, but DDP is taking some real cheap shots at Bagwell. -Arn has been tortured for 3 days and instead of getting serious medical attention, he's walking out to help David and Crowbar retain the tag titles. -Bret vs. Funk is really hard to watch knowing how much this match contributed to ending Bret's career. Especially seeing Bret grab his head for so much of the match.

January 12, 2000 Thunder -I'm really trying to figure out why WCW plastered David Flair on their TV so much. It's not like it was an order from Ric, he and WCW were having major problems at this point. David and Crowbar are not this super over team either. It's really baffling. -Bret denounces the NWO. Nash comes out and says they'll end his career tonight and maybe his life too. Very unsafe working environment in WCW. -Highlights from a brawl between Finlay and Knobbs that was deemed too violent to show on Nitro. It looks like every other brawl from that era. Not even any blood. -The NWO find Bret and the cameras cut away before anything happens so it's obviously all a swerve. -Madusa vs Oklahoma in an evening gown match. I am not ok with this. -This is truly embarrassing to watch. -The amount of man on woman violence in WCW in 2000 is genuinely disturbing. -I always thought that Matt vs Jeff in 2009 was the worst former tag partner feud I'd ever seen. Now I can safely say Booker T vs Stevie Ray in 2000 is much much worse! -Tank Abbot and Jerry Flynn are arrested for fighting. The police then lock them both inside the same cell. Of course they both begin fighting again and the cops rush in to break it up. What did they think was going to happen?! -Luger attacks Bam Bam dressed as Sting. Lights go out and a spotlight is supposed to be on a black crow, but of course the guy operating the spotlight can't find the bird. -We see the NWO in the back and the trainer is wrapping Nash's ribs. Bret is being choked by Steiner and the trainer flat out does not care about this. -Bret escapes and makes his way to the ring and squares off with with Nash and Jarrett. They stand around for like 5 minutes while Funk and Arn limp from the back. Arn throws water in Bret's face which proves all the bruises on him were fake. NWO attacks and lay out Funk and Arn. So they knew Bret was lying and they get their asses kicked anyway. Damn this show was stupid.

Halfway through the Thunder from 2000 and I honestly don't know if I could continue watching if they had the rest of 2000 on the Network. These shows are just straight garbage.
January 19, 2000 Thunder -David Flair and Crowbar always come out first for these shows. It's so weird. -David Flair is the worst wrestler I've ever seen. He has no instincts. Charlotte really hogged all the talent in that sibling pool. -Curt Hennig vs Jim Duggan.....just because? -I'm kind of wondering who actually sang 3 Count's song. -Norman Smiley comes out to dance to 3 Count's song. No surprise, he has way better rhythm than the 3 white boys. -The power structure in WCW is so weird. Terry Taylor says the championship committee has made a decision about how the held up WCW title situation will be handled and Nash just comes out and says "No, we're gonna do this instead!" -Oklahoma vs Madusa is the worst thing WCW is doing in 2000 by a wide margin. -Lot of vacant titles this time of year. Started with new tag champs being crowned. Now the cruiserweight and world titles are vacant. -Nash and Co. have yelled "What kind of man are you?!" or some variation a lot this episode. They've run the gag into the ground worse than MadTV. -WCW had really terrible time management for a taped show. Their main event ends and the bell barely finishes ringing before they have to end the show.

-Lot of vacant titles this time of year. Started with new tag champs being crowned. Now the cruiserweight and world titles are vacant. Yeah, it's safe to say that Vacant had a field day in WCW in the year 2000, and you're not even at his peak yet.

Thank God, I'm at the final Thunder of 2000.
January 26, 2000 -Ran into my first real insane Sid promo. I have zero idea what he said. -This whole title situation just screams WCW trying to be too clever. This doesn't have to be so complicated. -The Maestro is not a good wrestler, but he was a very fun character. -Tenay and Hudson pimp Saturday Night about 5 times in 40 seconds. -The Demon loses his debut match to Terry Funk. -This show so far isn't as actively terrible as last "week" was, but it's ultimately just really boring. -Nash tries so hard to be funny and he generally can be, but he fails bad in 2000. -Sid beats Nash and a Harris Twin after making Nash tap with the Crossface. I feel like Sid using the Crossface as his new finish was some sort of dig at Benoit, but I can't be sure. -Ric Flair also makes his return to the company with zero hype.
