No Tonga or Fale would be a godsend. Oh and please have Kojima in there, I missed him greatly last year. I imagine they'd want more than one Bullet Club guy in, though. If not Fale, maybe Chase or someone? Might as well add Chase Give him a chance to showcase himself like they did with Hangman Page I'd be for Hoyt replacing Fale this year since he showed he can do well at the NJC this year. Fale usually always does well at the G1 but last year was a real sour note. Yes, they did the interferences on purpose but still that shit was jus bad

With Kenny, Hangman, Elgin and now Tama out, I see Kojima, Jeff Cobb, Taichi and then the other one could be a couple of different(I would love to see Shingo or Ospreay move to heavyweight for it). If Fale is out that adds another spot, but I bet he's in because he's usually solid in the tournament. Also, if Fale is out I would think they would give Bullet Club one more spot with either Tonga Loa or Chase Owens, unless the add a new heavyweight.

I agree with Taichi and Cobb being in there this year With Shingo and Ospreay both being in the Best of Super Juniors I think that takes them out the running for the G1 this year Most likely Fale keeps his spot and you either put Kojima in or just someone in general to be able to take falls in hard fought contest

There are four open with Fale in.

Hmm well this is a good time to branch out on what I think the brackets will be Block A Goto Ishii Sanada Kojima Cobb Okada Sabre Jr Fale Suzuki Makabe Block B Naito Evil Robinson Yano Tanahashi Ibushi White Taichi Owens Yoshi Hashi Block A winner: Ishii Block B winner: Naito G1 Winner: Naito Some notes on my list Goto and Ishii always seem to end up in same Block so we have that I do think it is possible we get Ibushi in the same block as Okada but I think they try to stack him with White and Naito Most likely when the real one comes out Okada has someone else either White or Tana in his bracket

I predict SANADA finally gets his win over Okada in this tournament and I also predict Naito wins the G1 this year.

At worst he gets a tie I think Ishii wins against the IWGP champ again this year like he did against Omega last year which gives him a title shot later 2nd loss for Okada probably happens against Sabre if i'm going be own block or a big potential upset for Cobb

I'm gonna go complete wildcard here and say Zack Sabre Jr, unless the plan is to f*** over Naito for a third time.

I think SANADA beating Okada is certainty as well (assuming they are in the same block). EVIL got a win over him in the 2017 G1 after all (same day that Juice beat Kenny, that was a wild show).

Sabre still doesn't seem like a buyable opponent yet, I think he gets an IC title run in the future. If not Naito, I would say Ibushi, but he has to drop the IC title first.

I honestly love to see Naito be the first guy to win the briefcase after the tournament, but I'm afraid of the outburst that might follow if he doesn't win G1 outright.

Naito being eliminated last year completely sucked the energy out of the crowd. If it weren't for Tanahashi's comeback story, I don't know if they would have won the fans back over like they did. There isn't anything I can really think of that will draw and get the fans excited as much as Naito getting another title shot at the dome.

You'd have to find the right person to win the G1 tho and not have that backlash if Naito does beat them I mean you can have Tana win again and then Naito take the case I would say Ibushi but they have matched up so many times this year and over previous years you don't want to run that into the ground especially if you plan ahead and have Ibushi take the title off of Naito Goto is sort of perfect for that tho he has spent time trying to rehab his image and losing the case would bring back a bad label

However it goes down, the fact that they're doing two nights at the Dome does mean there's a lot of different ways they can approach these shows and how they'll build to them; I'd just like to see the G1 end with a slightly surprising winner, really the only notable surprise in recent years has been Omega and he was clearly on the way up at that point, anyway. Still, no matter what happens, we'll always have Naito training a giant chicken at the dojo - www.reddit.com/r/njpw/comments/bmy3yc/naito_trains_a_real_life_chicken/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x

There were 25,000 tickets demanded for that show this year, so the only place to logically put it is the Tokyo Dome. You still some lesser title matches and of course the show sets up new fueds, contenders and occasionally introduces new talent. The IWGP heavyweight title and marquee matches will still be on January 4th. I suppose you could have Liger's retirement match January 5th as there is nothing left for the next night in that case, but I believe it has already been announced as the 4th.

It’s a thought; they’re clearing keeping Naito and White apart for whatever long term purpose, and that could be a fun way for them to finally cross paths. Though with how far apart they’ve kept them I suppose they may want to save it for something bigger, like a straight up title match.

Jay could win it but I doubt they want to give Jay something and take it away. He's been carefully built up and now that he has lost the IWGP title, you have to be careful in this next step of success vs overkill. He doesn't need to win the G1, just have a strong showing and beat a few people to keep showing people how dangerous he is On the otherside, they have kept him and Naito away from each other. We shall see if they get matched up in the G1 but I think that is for a big reason with bigger goals in mind in the same way Naito/Okada have barely matched up outside of big title matches

Honestly, I'm just happy someone finally won with the goddamn briefcase. If Tanahashi had lost, it would have COMPLETELY killed the credibility of the tournament as a concept.
As for predictions, I'm going to say SANADA beats Okada, Sabre gets one of those big wins in a match in the tournament like he often seems to, maybe over White or Naito, and I have Naito as winning the G1.
Could see Jay pulling the cheating bullshit again, if only because it'd make whoever eliminates him from being able to win get that much more of pop for spoiling his chances. It also would bug me less if we don't also have Tama shitting the place up again by doing the same thing, only less interesting, so i am relieved he's asking to not be part of the tournament this year. We may still have to deal with him if Fale's in, but that bugs me a bit less.
