Will Ospreay has expressed interest in making a G1 appearance as a Junior Heavyweight. Also am I the only one who thinks Jushin Liger getting a G1 spot would be something special? I mean just think about it: The Greatest Junior Heavyweight to ever live competing in a tournament for the chance to compete for the heavyweight crown in his final match. Could you imagine how invested the crowd would be in a run like that? I don't want to doubt Liger, but is he going to hold up at 54 years old? Especially if he's got to have matches with Ishii and Okada and Suzuki?

Just that enough people have brought the idea up that I figured I should ask how well a 54 year old will stand up to such an intense tour. Especially if it's 10 people per block.

Have to ask though: is it that you don't want him in the tournament, or that you just don't think he will be? As far as who I think will actually be in the tournament 1: Kazuchika Okada 2: Hiroshi Tanahashi 3: Tetsuya Naito 4: Jay White 5: Kota Ibushi 6: Tomohiro Ishii 7: Hirooki Goto 8: Minoru Suzuki 9: EVIL 10: Sanada 11: Taichi 12: Zack Sabre Jr. 13: Togi Makabe 14: Jeff Cobb 15: Juice Robinson 16: Will Ospreay 17: Toru Yano 18: Bad Luck Fale 19: Jon Moxley (Who's stated he's signed a deal for multiple appearances) 20: Kenny Omega (Given he's allowed to work NJPW dates I'd be surprised if they don't ask him.) As far as blocking that I don't know. What I do know is I would love to see a match between Ospreay and Suzuki, just for the sheer ridiculousness of it all.

It's a great potential swan song and Liger wrestling the heavies makes for such great matchups we don't see a lot. When he was jarring with Suzuki from the commentary I really hoped it led to him challenging for the Never but it sorta just went away.

NJPW had seemingly acknowledged that the two of them are looking to have a singles match, with each other. I hope that match at least happens. Even if Liger doesn't compete in the G1. It's a dream match to be sure.

I know Omega's free to do work for NJPW, but there's no way he'd commit to a full G1 tournament. That'd be pushing it, and taking a lot of risks of one of AEW's biggest stars getting injured in a round robin tournament.
Similarly, not sure if Moxley would sign on for it, but he feels a little bit more possible just in terms of it's something he hasn't done before, and might be curious about.

I don't see either guy doing it That's a lot of risk for AEW to allow Kenny to do that and have him f*** around and suffer an injury therefore taking their top star off TV when it comes around. Moxley may do it but this would be too much too soon for him I think with next year seeming much more possible. If anything he wins the U.S. title and can and go for a little while when he is needd

Moxley said he wanted to do challenging things, and the G1 is that if it can fit his schedule.
Unless he meant wrestling in BJW or something lol

This is my blocking for my predicted roster if I'm right (Which I'm probably not) With my rationale at the bottom. A Block:Kazuchika Okada Jon Moxley Kota Ibushi Bad Luck Fale Zack Sabre Jr. Minoru Suzuki Evil Togi Makabe Jeff Cobb Tomohiro Ishii B Block:Tetsuya Naito Hiroshi Tanahashi Kenny Omega Jay White Toru Yano Taichi Sanada Will Ospreay Juice Robinson Hirooki Goto {Spoiler}{Spoiler}So my rationale for this is as follows:
I can conclude that since its been such a protected match Naito and Okada are not going to be in the same block.
Omega and Okada will also not be in the same block, as there's not really a story between them at this time, and given their tendency to play that as the GOAT rivalry it would be weird to put it as a random match in the tournament.
Omega and Ibushi will also probably not be done in this situation as they are likely saving this match for later.
If Omega is in I would predict as one of the (thousands of) Executive Vice Presidents of AEW he would ask for the consideration of keeping he and Moxley in separate block to preserve AEW's plans for the summer.
I put Tanahashi an Okada in separate blocks because they have the tendency to give a cool off to their rivalry every few years.
I think White and Okada are going to be kept apart for the time being, to lead to another fight down the line.
I assume that with Suzuki-gun and LIJ they will do their usual 2 in one block one in the other thing they tend to do. I also think that which ever one gets two Suzuki-gun wrestlers will have the one LIJ Member and the one with two LIJ members will have one Suzuki-Gun Member. I also make the assumption that the two leaders will not be in the same block, putting Suzuki in one block and Naito in the other (Part of that is also me just hoping I never see another match between them again.)
The reason I have Sabre in A block is because NJPW loves having he and Ibushi in tournament matches, which means they'd probably be in the same block. It also means we'd get Suzuki and him finally.
Yano is in B Block because him and Omega is tradition.
Fale is in A Block because they need an easy night guy in that block.
Ospreay is in B Block because there are more fresh matches for him there.
Taichi is in B Block to keep the championship ratio mostly even.
Sanada is in B block because I think a third match between he and Okada in 3 months is a bit much especially since it always has the same result.
My earlier hypothesis puts EVIL in A Block since LIJ already has two members in B Block.
The rest is just an attempt to get the blocks mostly even in terms of talent unlike last year where B Block was stacked and A Block was kind of crap.

I really think Mox is doing it. It may be a small thing, but he's booked on all of Northeast Wrestling's summer shows except for the one they are having that's in the middle of the G1... 🤔

Depending on the block set up it's possible he wouldn't need to be on the card, although admittedly that does put a hole in my theory. EDIT: Nevermind, he'd have to be there for the show on the 14th, which is impossible given travel time an time difference. that's a bummer, I'd have loved to see Kenny in the G1 this year.

Not guarantees, of course, but certainly possible. I don't think New Japan would have an outside talent beat one of their top stars. Although I could see and Ospreay, or Sanada upset. I think that honestly makes the tournament more interesting though.

Granted, it set up a title match that Okada then won (well, that and NOAH was under the same umbrella as NJPW at the time), but there's precedent.

Imagine letting KUSHIDA walk because you wouldn't make him a heavyweight but now, we got Will The Goober Osprey about to be in the G1.
