After 10 years, my cat passed away today. He was about 12 years old and the greatest companion you could ever ask for. He had lost weight last 3-4 months and I knew something was going on but I was afraid to take him to the vet out of hearing bad news. Up until 2-3 days ago he was still acting normal and just took a steep turn for the worst really quick. Kidney failure. My first “adult” pet I ever had and now he’s gone. RIP Jackson.

RIP. Nothing worse than losing a pet. No doubt your cat had the best life it could have had with you.

We lost our Ata a little over a year ago. It was pretty crushing, but it will get better. Just think about the little quirks he brought to your life. What was his favorite toy? Did he have a favorite spot? When was he most interested in cuddling? What annoying thing that he did will you miss? Remembering those things will sting now, but become sweet, loving memories. Cherish such things.

I lost my Paris to advanced kidney failure about four years ago now. Just passed the anniversary a few days ago. Brutally difficult given we were only together four years. I miss her every day, even with her last gift to me, my girl Angel. Best advice I give is let yourself mourn. Don’t feel bad for tears as they are earned for the life lived. I personally recommend cremation and keeping the ashes so they are always around and they are safe at home where they were loved, but that is up to you. When you are ready, when the heart tells you it’s OK, see if there is another special one to let in. It is never good to be without and the greatest way to honor the memory the one who touched the heart to start is to share the love with another.
Sympathies and best wishes.

It's been over 11 years since I lost my dog Scooter and some days I'll think about him or someone else losing their dog will make me tear up all over again. I've lost grandparents, family members, other people I've known, even friends to horrible, unforeseen circumstances like disease, accidents, suicide, even murder. And I've mourned their losses. But I can move on from those eventually. I don't think I'll ever truly move on from losing my dog.
Don't let anyone ever diminish your pet's loss because they're just animals and not human beings. They are our steadfast companions with unconditional love and friendship.

Losing a pet is awful, and I still grieve for ones lost a decade or more ago. You can only hope you gave them a good life and remember the good times you had with them.

My sincerest condolences to you I lost my kitty about 3 years ago he was 11 he was always super chill he had respiratory issues since he was 6 months old every year in the winter he’d get sick I give him the medicine he hated and he be all better this time I gave him the medicine and he wasn’t getting so I brought him to the vet they ran some test and told me his kidneys were failing I decided I was gonna take a brake from animals for awhile as it had only been about 5 months since my dog died of cancer then my mom showed up 2 days later and brought me to the animal rescue as they had just gotten a litter of 8 week old kittens so I got a kitten and it was a shock to my system to go from a cat that was always mellow and chill to a kitten that was a maniac. It’s 3 years later and that maniac kitten is now a maniac cat.

Awww, sorry to hear that. It's always hard when you know itxs going that way. My mom just put down her cat last year named Jackson who was 18 years old. Now our 13 year old akita/rott is starting to have trouble getting around. Pets enrich our lives so much. I couldn't imagine a life without any, but the downside is having to deal with the loss of a pet which is just gutting. The heartbreak of losing hurts, but I'll gladly take it for the year and years of happiness and companionship.

Sorry to hear that. I lost my dog about a year ago and he was my world. I hope you are okay, or as okay as you can be right now.

Terribly sorry for your loss, man. Any time I've ever lost a pet it's crushed me. You never stop loving them after they've gone.

I'm sorry for your loss. I'm not looking forward to the eventual loss of my dogs. I'm a dog person, but I do love cats as well. I grew up with my parents with two cats.

So sorry to hear that. Cats are wonderful companions, and having to have one put to sleep is awful. I still get choked up when I think of the two cats I've had to have put to sleep.
One was an old boy we'd had from when he was a kitten, and he lived to a grand old age of seventeen. The other was much younger, we adopted him after the man who'd taken him in as a stray passed away. We only had him for a year, before he suffered a blood clot that paralysed him, but he was a great cat. The gentlest, friendliest fellow I ever met.

My dog died 7 years ago, due to kidney failure. I still miss him.
I'm very sorry for the loss of your cat, and I hope that you can find comfort here. The pain is unimaginable, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I'm so sorry for your loss.

FYI, you will eventually feel the draw of getting another cat. Don’t feel bad about it. You will not be replacing the one you lost; You will be getting a recipient of your excess love.
