Has anyone ever read the book of Forrest Gump? It came out LONG before the movie, and is almost nothing like it. Yeah, it's got Forrest, Jenny, and Dan, but it goes in weird, weird paths.

No, but I did read the sequel, Gump and Co. Which was largely a reaction by the author to how much he hated the movie. From what I can remember, Forrest plays in the NFL, is responsible for New Coke, questions Little Forrest's sexuality when he gets his ear pierced, and meets Tom Hanks. Who Forrest f***Ing despises.

I read it last year and it was interesting. I wasn't a fan of it at all. It's one of the few times, where the movie was better than the book.

I think the book is great, and much better than the movie adaptation. I think it's really funny.

Love the book. Hate the film.

The book is kinda awful. There are so many things that Forrest does in the book that make absolutely no sense for the character. Experimenting with drugs is probably the worst example, but there are several others.
I'll even go so far as to say that "Forrest Gump" and "The Shawshank Redemption" are probably the two biggest examples of the movies far surpassing the source material.

Read the sequel. As I recall, that hasn’t been mentioned, Forrest becomes a pig farmer and uses their shit for fuel, gets tons of visits by Ghost Jenny, fights in Desert Storm with Lt. Dan and a chimp, believe LT Dan gets killed in the war.

I read the book and it’s sequel. Definitely a case of the movie being better than the book in my opinion. Forrest isn’t nearly as lovable and good natured in the book. Tom Hanks’s performance made the character.

Doesn't he go into space and become a pro wrestler that eventually takes on a guy whose gimmick is he's literally a giant piece of shit?

He claims he got completely f***ed by Hollywood accounting and didn’t make anything off the movies success, even tho he was contractually entitled to a cut

Saw the movie first thought it was ok at best. Then read the book and hated the film.

Yeah, it was the changes that were made that he didn't like. I don't blame him. The changes really made it a different story. The book and the movie are different not just in terms of the story but the characters and how they are portrayed and act. In the book Forrest has a low IQ but he isn't an imbecile. He actually does things to move the plot along. In the movie he's basically a side-character in his own movie that things passively happen to.

I read it years ago shortly after the movie came out. It's a lot...darker? Forest definitely isn't as lovable as Roth & Zemeckis made him in the movie and that was probably the right decision to make in terms of making an appealing film.

I would have loved to have seen Tom Hanks in a movie based more on the book. Snarky Forrest would've been kind of awesome.

I read both books. Barely remember either of them to be honest. Pretty sure Forrest Jr turns out to be a genius.
