Yeah I'll echo everyone else and day that the WWE never treated him well. Shame he was saddled with Bray Wyatt.

Luke Harper deserves a lot better than he got in WWE. Hope he goes to New Japan or AEW and makes a real splash in either place. I'd prefer New Japan. Again, I know AEW is the smark thing to suggest, but not everyone should rush over there right away. Harper/Brodie needs to rehab his cred as WWE spent the past 4 years or so making him out to be nothing more than a goon who lost to damn near everything under the sun and only let him be a winner by saddling him with a dumb gimmick.

New Japan is right now the most credible alternative to WWE for great talent looking to get a fresh start IMO as long as living abroad isn't an issue. As promising as AEW is and the impressive lineup they're coming in with, it's still a mystery what their regular product will even be like. ROH is a mockery of its former self and Impact is still in this weird limbo.

I don't know what the hell Impact is anymore; we make fun of it one week, but then they do something competent. We don't even know what AEW is going to have from regular programming, or if they'll do house shows. Heck, they might just be a promotion that does annual super cards.

"Damnit Paul, why are all these ungrateful people quitting on me?"
"Because you have 220 wrestlers and you barely use 50 of them"
"You're saying I need to hire 50 more guys to replace the quitters? Great idea"

To play devil's advocate on the ROH front, guys like Cobb, Rush, and Bandido are still being booked very strong there right now, but Harper/Brodie is a bit older now and I don't think ROH would put that kind of commitment in with him at this stage. Selfishly, I'd absolutely love to see the guy get over to NJPW, he'd be a beast. My first instinct was to agree with putting him in Suzuki-gun, but I guess one could argue that he'd blend in too much as "strong, tall gaijin" with KES; also love the idea of him as the #2 guy in Bullet Club, as he absolutely has the talent to work a spot like that, but again, I wonder how much of an issue his age might be in terms of long term booking ideas. And yeah, AEW would be daft to not at least reach out to him, it's a no-brainer to at least kick the tires and see what he's looking for.

Let him go. Rowan truely was the star IMO. Harper lost way too much mass to be a threat.

There is some sort of cosmic injustice where a "monster" who isn't really a monster or very talented and a massive piece of garbage like Lars Sullivan gets a big solo push while Harper is a a really talented big guy and by most accounts a pretty decent guy and he can't get shit.

I'm incredibly excited by this and I didn't know this was actually confirmed. WWE has dropped the ball on him so many times and he always shined when they gave him a chance. A few years ago when they gave him a push into the title picture on Smackdown he got the crowd behind him after years of being booked like a joke, that takes talent. It was incredibly frustrating because I so excited when they signed Brody Lee and they just couldn't figure out how to use him.
As far as where he should go, I agree New Japan. I feel like AEW is going to be heavily character driven and he would be better off in Japan where he can just be a monster and put on damn good matches.

I remember in one of the first Wyatt Family promos on Raw, there was just a quick clip of Harper saying "Send us someone. Just don't send anyone you want back." and thinking "Good Lord, that's the monster of the group." Harper was able to go beyond the "Rarrrgghh I'm a crazy monster!!!" schtick most lumps have and possess the sort of Cactus Jack "This person is genuinely unsettling.." aura, including little things like talking quietly to himself in the ring PLUS he was actually good in the ring...yeah, they did drop the ball on this one.

According to Harper himself, Vince was angry that Harper didn't cut that promo in a southern accent

Imagine if other companies worked this way. "Make you manager? Why would i do that, you forgot pickles on a customer's sandwich that one time."

Even though it doesn't normally come with pickles and they didn't ask for pickles and the customer enjoyed the sandwich without them... but we are punishing you anyway

I spent ten years dealing a regional manager who screwed me over time and again over a perceived slight a decade prior.

Imagine if other companies worked this way. "Make you manager? Why would i do that, you forgot pickles on a customer's sandwich that one time." Reality check: Other companies DO work that way. There are petty assholes in management in every field everywhere. I spent ten years dealing a regional manager who screwed me over time and again over a perceived slight a decade prior. Here’s my story and it’s a bit more elaborate so bare with me. I was working zero hours for a photography company in the London Aquarium (which is easy to find but I refuse to speak its name) and I had the opportunity to work over Christmas for Winter Wonderland, an event in Hyde Park that’s one of the most well known winter attractions in the world for better short term pay. Since it was zero hours, I didn’t have to do it but as a courtesy, I asked if it was ok if I did it because I didn’t want it harming my chances for work later on. My boss said it was fine, even going as far as saying “You’d be an idiot not to take it”. So I did and I came back, thinking that it wouldn’t affect how I was working because of how well I was doing with sales at the time. I ended up getting stuck on weekends and not the week day shift. I asked why this was and my boss said “Well, you weren’t there throughout Christmas and more people were able to contribute so they got the hours”. This would be fine if I wasn’t told extensively that this wouldn’t change anything and I’d be “an idiot” to reject it. I quit to go to another job which wasn’t much better but I didn’t feel bad for quitting. If my service was going to be tossed aside with no way of coming back,, f*** them. Not the same sort of petty but this was the best time to rant about it as any.
