I'm watching 1999 WWF now and while I disagree with the narrative some people push that he never seemed like a main eventer (he's been just one small step below the Austin's and undertakers for ages) I will say that WWF's quality instantly nosedives the moment you see them go with him as a main eventer
Compares to the likes of Austin, rock and mankind his promos are really dull, the Vince feud is so forced. Vince as a face against the ministry worked until the unveiling, against HHH it's just....dull.
The RAW where he's face to face with a snake is so bad as the snakes blatantly behind glass, the SD where he pretends to retire due to the bite is some of the worst acting I've even seen. A terrible promo where he does some of the worst acting pretending he's hurt and upset, then s swerve no-one was buying anyway when it turns out he's fine
DX reunion is horrible so far, killed X-pac dead and one day after they are united Austin basically catches them with Looney toones tricks anyway, then rightfully mocks them for being stupid
I remember loving the mcmahon/helmsley regime when younger so hoping that holds up a bit more

I always thought that Trips '08 was his WWE Championship reign where he tried to be like Stone Cold. Teaming up with nkn like the number 2 face, talking smack to them, then if teams like London and Kendrick tries to go out of their way to help him, he gives them pedigrees (I may be thinking the wrong year that happened lol).
