Which one did you have or prefer?
I was very much a multiplayer guy so the n64 with its four Controller ports seemed personally built for me.
Also Goldeneye

Had both. 64 had some great games, but PS1 is still one of my favorite systems of all time.

I went from SNES to PS1 as a kid, and then I eventually got a 64 for about a year or two before I traded it in for PS2. I regretted doing that even though I loved my PS2. My original 64 had the purple atomic controller. The one I own now is the translucent aqua blue one; it's a gorgeous aesthetic for a console.
I had a PS1 with a multi-tap for awesome 4-player Frogger action, but N64 was the go-to multiplayer console. I have fond memories going inside after spending all afternoon in my neighbor's pool and playing some Mario Party or Star Wars EP1 Racer. Those were the best summers. And that goes without mentioning the 4 AKI wrestling games for WCW/WWF or how revolutionary Mario 64 was.
However, as an all-around gaming experience, I'm giving it to PS1. Metal Gear Solid blew my mind and helped changed perceptions on what video games could be. Silent Hill 1 gave me nightmares and to this day is still psychologically unsettling. It also had Twisted Metal 2, the pinnacle of car combat games, which had a really fun co-cop campaign. Tail of the Sun is an underrated open-world(-ish) gem that rewarded your curiosity for exploration. There's also platformers like Crash and Spyro, and the Tony Hawk games, which made a cultural impact. Lots of stuff to love on PS1 even if this era for both systems hasn't aged the best. I still really love MGS1 and TM2 and a number of other games.

I had N64; nobody I hung out with got a Playstation when it first came out, but then I saw a couple of friends get a N64 in 1996 and got one by 1997, mainly because I was blown away by Mario 64 and then desperately needed my own copy of Star Fox. Plus, I was 12 years old or so: as far as I was concerned, Nintendo meant video games from the time I was born...though I did also have a Genesis in the 16 bit generation.
All in all I think it worked out well for me; I recognize that PSX had a lot of groundbreaking titles and I bet I would've enjoyed a lot of them if I had owned one or known more people with the system, but as great as, say, Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid are, I don't think they appeal as much to my gaming preferences (though, who knows, maybe my preferences would be different today if I had it instead of Nintendo). Meantime I really loved the 4-player build for N64 and had a bunch of favorites on it, including my time spent playing Ocarina of Time and having my entire concept of video games as a storytelling medium turned on its head.

I'm inclined to lean toward the N64, but I have plenty of love for both.

I was a Playstation guy, I bought mine the week I got my own place in 1997. Never had a N64, but I played my share of Goldeneye at friend's houses.

I bought a Playstation 1 because I was disappointed in the N64's lineup. Not that I didn't enjoy my N64, but PS1 had some of the best games I've ever played like Castlevania SotN. Not to mention an excellent selection of JRPG's (I think the N64 had like, 5 throughout its entire life. And only 2 were any good) including all the Final Fantasy games released on the thing, Valkyrie Profile (to this day one of my favorite RPG's ever), Star Ocean 2, Chrono Cross, Xenogears, Tales of Destiny, Suikoden I and II, Vagrant Story, Tactics Ogre, etc.

They both had their charms I had both but I could never picked 1 over the other that would be like picking 1 kidney over the other when I love them both equally.

I never even played on an N64. I went from a Mega Drive to a Playstation, and the most I've ever used any Nintendo system is the SNES my best friend had, and my sister's Gameboy. It's hard to see how the N64's gaming lineup could have beaten the Playstation's, though - Grand Theft Auto, Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, Tekken, Resident Evil 2, Tomb Raider, Vagrant Story

I had both, favoring the N64 a bit. I think that's still ultimately how I feel.
Playstation had obviously FAR better RPG options, though the N64 had the wrestling games, and excellent first and second party games. Both had great platformers, though I think N64 wins out a bit there.

I had both at some point,
Honestly can't remember for the life of me what games I had on the Playstation
While N64 can remember lots of games I had including GoldenEye, Starfox, Mario Kart and the games from wCw and WWF
So N64 wins hands down for me

Has to be Playstation for me. Games like the Crash trilogy, MGS, Smackdown, Ridge Racer, Spider-Man 1&2, Soul Blade... Also a controller that wasn't designed by some kind of eldritch being.

I loved both but the nostalgia is strong with the N64. I still own one and play it whereas obviously PlayStation has moved on since then

Also a controller that wasn't designed by some kind of eldritch being. The N64 controller still feels like one of the most intuitive, natural controllers ever built to me. I picked one up after ten years and was happily back in the swing of things within a minute or two. On the other hand Sony's refusal to make any significant changes to the PlayStation controller is the primary reason I've stayed away from their consoles for the last 20 years.
