To me he will be the guy that ruined my first Wrestlemania. I bought my ticket in late 2004 hoping for a great show. I also attended the 2005 Royal Rumble and was beyond disappointed when I left that Rumble realizing the WM main event would be Batista v HHH. 2 guys I could care less about. I never saw anything in Batista besides a slow, steroided up, clunky guy that looked like he walked out of a Vince McMahon wet dream. He was proof that WWE fans will get behind almost anybody if that's what the WWE machine force feeds them. My favorite part of any Batista run has always been when he left. Oh also a friend and myself ran into RVD the night before WM 31. We asked for a pic and Rob was super cool until he saw my buddies Batista shirt. Rob said, "really, Batista, bro?!"😂 I think RVD and myself have the same opinion of "Big Dave".

Didn't Mania 21 break the wrestling PPV buyrate record?
I'd say in this business in particular that's a pretty huge legacy.
His other legacy will be as one of the only wrestlers to escape the micro-culture they rose in. Not many have, and the only ones to do it more successfully are The Rock, and heavily arguably Hogan (given the latter's prevalence in pop culture, but it's almost entirely as 'a wrestler' rather than any of his work being respected).

Probably the #2 star of the 00's after John Cena.

He spent most of his career wasted as a bland babyface getting title shots every PPV thanks to his Game Genie cheats. But bookending that we had a very enjoyable heel runs that ended his career and one of the best face turns in WWE history that ended his first run as a heel when he turned on HHH. He was great but his peak happened at a terrible time creatively for WWE.

Great character and man, dull as a dusty road wrestler.

1B of the The Ruthless Aggression Era is his WWE legacy I think. Vince has been in search of a “top Raw guy, top Smackdown guy” because the model worked really well with Cena and Batista. Current WWE seems so disconnected from that era to me, it makes you forget how Batista was a tippy top guy for a pretty long run.
