In the third Friday movie, the scene where Terry Crews tries to rape the pimp is played for laughs. This has aged even worse after Terry himself became a victim of man on man sexual abuse.
Not exclusive to the 2000s, but in many sitcoms with the idiot husband and bitchy wife there’s so much verbal and sometimes physical abuse. A while ago I was watching an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond. Debra and Marie were trying to set a friend up with Robert’s ex to make him jealous. Ray tries to stop this... and his wife punches him in the balls as the audience roars with laughter. WTF.
In later seasons of Friends, there were so many jokes about Chandler being girly. Just cause he likes to take baths and has the Annie soundtrack.
On the subject of Friends, there is actually one episode that pisses me off. Freddy Prinze Jr plays a nanny who is damn good at his job, Ross finds this so weird. While the episode does treat Ross as an asshole, we get a scene where he says his father told him to act like a “real boy” as a kid than be nerdy. If you watch Friends, you’d know this is very out of character for Ross and Monica’s dad.
Fez from That 70’s Show is a downright sex offender. He hits on his friends’ girlfriends. I’m pretty sure one episode had him hiding under Donna’s bed.
Man, sitcoms have aged so bad!

I generally enjoy Everbody Loves Raymond because the actors are all pretty funny, but basically every character on Everybody Loves Raymond is clinically insane.

The Office..I guess? Carell has said it wouldn’t be feasible today. Wasn’t that the point of Michael Scott: an individual that makes people around him uncomfortable with his lack of knowledge of social norms?

rewatched some Kenny vs Spenny recently, Kenny regularly asks girls to kiss him on the cheek and he will move his face at the last minute so they kiss him on the lips
This obviously feels more uncomfortable today

The one time Tobey Maguire does quip in the original Spider-Man...and it wouldn't hold up now as gay shaming.

That reminds me of one of the worst Family Guy moments/jokes of it's entire existence (and there's been a lot of terrible jokes/moments since it's return, but there's reason why I say this one is one of the worst of the worst of the worst of the worst). They used racism as a cheapest of cheap shock jokes. Making it way worse is that Stewie was never racist! His character had no racial overtones or undertones before or after this one joke. It made zero sense any way you try to put it.

“Let’s Get Retarded” -2003 Even more politically incorrect was when VH1 did one of those 'lame songs' countdowns a few years later and put "Let's Get It Started" on the list basically saying that Black Eyed Peas were totally pussy-footing themselves by re-recording the song for radio purposes. I'm sure watching back those comments today would feel awkward.

I remember when that song came out before they rewrote it and even by 2003 standards it was kinda like “wow they’re letting them get away with this on the radio”. I swear it changed within a week.

I hated this. I know the Spider-Man trailer, and wasn't there supposed to be a big battle scene at the towers? Or maybe it was supposed to be Men in Black 2. Zoolander and The Sopranos cut out images of the towers. Like...what did the towers do? They are iconic buildings that made up the most famous city in the world's skyline. They should never be cut out from things. They should remain as a memorial and tribute. Yeah Spider-Man was going to have him make a huge web between the towers and catch, like, a helicopter or something. I get it, the towers didn't "do" anything but seeing them right after would give the whole audience flashbacks, kinda takes people out of the movie when they think about collapsing buildings, people jumping out of them because that's the better option etc. I’m certain the bit where the New Yorkers throw stuff at the Green Goblin to help Spider-Man while he saves some people was a post-9/11 addition. As for the topic at hand, good lord has Team America: World Police not aged well at all.

So... 9/11 affected the US in a way, and some things were made we'd rather not discuss. Also, in the 80s thread I made a reference to the WTC or anything resembling 9/11 becoming taboo. So it shall be here too, as 2000/pre-Sept. 2001 stuff was affected, obviously. (Spider-Man trailer, several movies of the time, pretty much gutted Transformers: Robots in Disguise/Car Robots' run...) Didn't last, but worth mentioning of course. I seem to remember some online protests about Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Which was just dumb.

I’m pretty sure one episode had him hiding under Donna’s bed. Man, sitcoms have aged so bad! At the least, I remember at least one gag where Fez put a camera under Donna's skirt and took a picture, getting chased off. Zany creepiness! Ross was always an entitled creep, but the show got weirder and weirder with it as the show went on and most of the cast morphed into these bizarre cartoons. It happened to Phoebe, too, to an extent, but she almost turned into the straight man in a lot of the stories in the last few seasons. Ross got creepier and more unhinged, Joey became drastically dumber, Monica started acting like she was secretly on a meth high or something, Chandler stopped being the witty guy and just became this socially awkward punchline without the jokes to really offset it anymore, and Rachel- I guess Rachel was relatively normal, though she'd get obsessive in some episodes like the Winona Ryder kissing one.

Super Duper Sumos, forget the fat jokes and the Asian stereotypes, they were mocking a respected Japanese sport. I hope this never aired in Japan.
