She should've been beating up Nattie, Mickie and Dana Brooke en route to Becky. I still think they should've turned Alexa face and fed her to Lacey for Lacey's first main roster feud. Alexa vs Lacey: The One Punch Masters Next Year. Mania Main Event. BOOK IT. Oh f***, I just saw this I'm afraid to see what a double punch from Alexa and Lacey would do to someone.

She's saying it to stir up a reaction out of the supposedly classy, dignified and proper "lady".
They're talking to each other for the sake of building hype to see them fight. You say things to rattle the other person.
Becky's character isn't "socially conscious Tumblr feminist".

Okay, also, another aspect of this that bugs me - this is a show nominally aimed at children and families.
I realize WWE's constantly failing to realize that but at the same time, like, I feel like implying someone's giving sexual favors to get ahead in their job is really, really something best left out of work aimed at that sort of demographic.

Is her character (Since debuting on the main roster) acknowledged as being married? Seems like a weird way to go if so.

But isn’t part of Lacey’s character to do and say things that are counter to the Women’s Revolution environment? They had her insinuate using sex as a shortcut, it works for her character. People chanting slut is more on the audience member chanting it and less on the E. Other characters calling her on it is fine too because it helps highlight the morale/character/etc differences between the characters. I mean, the only thing I would say is that goes against her own character of being a loyal house wife to her husband but that’s NXT characterizations which apparently gets picked and chosen from as soon as you get called up to the main roster. I didn't see her on NXT, but having her preach about being (among other things) a loyal house wife with good, old fashioned values - and in reality be anything but, seems like a good basis for a heel character. I think a far bigger problem for this angle is that they're still going for 'management wants these other girls to be champ', from the most heavily pushed person in the company.

That kinda makes the real life husband look like an unwilling chump. Don’t know if I’d be cool with that if I were him.. Besides, a lot of her social media kind of shows that she actually is a devoted mother and wife.

Bray Wyatt is a psychopath and now seemingly a child abuser - I still understand that he has a pregnant girlfriend IRL.

I feel it’s worse because Becky is a face. At least if she was a heel it could be seen as something wrong.

It just brushes up against the whole "If WWE is running this type of storyline, it proves that Vince endorses unacceptable, socially-left-behind worldviews" thing again. Which directly contradicts the "OMG, LOOK HOW PROGRESSIVE WE ARE!!!" line that Steph keeps wanting to push.

I really don't want to defend this kind of storytelling but she did nothing but walk halfway to the ring and turn around for months, then one day she threw a single punch and got a title shot. There needs to be some kind of justification for the sudden push. So long as she isnt slut shamed as the entirety of her character, I'll let it slide this once.

That's kind of out the window now. Not to mention accusing a wrestler for using sex to advance up the ladder is not really slut shaming by definition if its true in kayfabe. And even if it isn't true in kayfabe, Becky is just talking shit. Like she always does. Her whole gimmick is "shit talking asshole antihero". And personally I'm tired of the "Womens revolution, we are all so happy for each other, let's YES together" shit. Less fake PR feminism, more wrestlers actually hating each other and feuding because of it.

I am absolutely all on board with using misogyny for a heel gimmick, particularly when a woman is using it herself - I loved Lacey's tweet about making her husband a sandwich after she got home.
But slut-shaming is like... the opposite point of what that kind of shit is meant to be about.

Next time I’m at a live event, I’m gonna try to get an Air Force Amy chant going. Hopefully enough people will know who that is.

Its dimestore smark promo shit.
Its the female equivalent of saying a guy is an entertainer and not a wrestler. Remember when AJ Lee did the same garbage?

I want to see them go for the punch on each other at the same time, and their fists collide. Then in kayfabe they both shatter their hands and give up in-ring competition for good.

From what I remember The Bellas didn't brag about using their real life relationships to get to the top even once, while Lacey's bragging in her promos and on Twitter about "currying favor" and getting opportunities everyone else has to actually work for. It's not "slut shaming" it's Lacey doing heel shit and being called out for it. Again, IMO the issue isn't Becky calling it out, it's that Lacey's being written this way.

A bimbo boinking the boss to get opportunities is shady, shameful behavior. It's not "slut shaming" to want to hold people accountable for taking shortcuts, the hypothetical boss who provided the opportunity very much included.
