Either fiction or non-fiction.
I was just recalling one that sticks out in a Stephen King collection I think Bazaar of Bad Dreams. I can’t recall the name of it, but it was about a married couple who are financially struggling. The husband is a writer who wants to work on a collection of stories and the wife is a caretaker of a rich old man. The husband is sure he can write a bestseller if he has time and the rich old man offers the wife a financial cushion. However to get the money she has to videotape herself smacking a child in the face.
The wife ends up doing it but resents the husband because of it. The husband ends up writing the book which turns out to be mediocre and not get as much money as he believed he would have gotten. I think they get divorced in the end.
It definitely feels like one of those stories where Stephen King had to write something but couldn’t think of anything good. So he came up with that.

All You Zombies by Robert Heinlein. If time travel stories make your head hurt, this one will make it explode. In a nutshell... {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{spoilers}Through both time travel and gender reassignment, the protagonist becomes their own father, their own mother, the person who gives them the time machine in the first place, and the bartender they're telling the story to!
