In all likelihood, Malenko doesn't get along with someone recently taken on in a producer/agent role, and with Arn gone as well, has no motivation to stay. Likely he's got a spot at AEW waiting for him.
It's one thing when the in-ring active talent are jumping ship (or looking to jump ship.) But guys like Malenko leaving suggest a shift in company culture that does not sound good for the product to come from WWE. AEW, for all the jokes about how silly the antics may seem, sure has a lot of experience helping out in the back: this is a company that seems open to input by those in the know and is positioning itself as a company whose product is pro wrestling.

One thing I will say, is that it seems like all of the BTE goofiness that seems to be an almost permanent function of Kenny and The Bucks, Cody seems really dedicated to the idea of something in the vein of (a more socially progressive version of) WCW/JCP. Makes one wonder if people like Arn and Malenko would be there in the back to help re-create some of the old WCW atmosphere.

He's blood brothers with Jericho, so won't be surprised to see him in AEW.

I mean you know it's coming, so I might as well say it: he'd be an excellent backstage vet for AEW. Yes, especially since it already said it in the original article posted.

Putting 2 and 2 together with another story (possibly coming up with 5).
Maybe he was one of the vets assigned to work with Lio and keep his mouth shut. If Lio is ticking people off again, I could see the company pointing fingers at said vets and one of said vets saying "to hell with this, I'm out"

Wait a minute. Was Simon Dean a joke on Dean Malenko’s real name?! Yep. It was a rib. Colt Cabana also wrestled a squash match as “Chris Guy” which is Ace Steel’s real name. Ace Steel then also wrestled a squash match as “Scott Colton” which is Colt Cabana’s real name. I love stuff like this.

Jumping before he was pushed out to make way for younger, cheaper guys, and while the doors to AEW are still open.

He probably got sick of carrying the can for some harebrained idea Vince had at the last minute, which then failed.
The WWE does need a lot of new blood behind the scenes, but it doesn't really matter who works there, as long as Vince, Kevin Dunn and one or two other people have the final say on everything.

I'd laugh if one of the biggest reasons Vince is holding off on leaving Steph in charge is because he knows she wants to fire Kevin Dunn.

Huge loss for them, if you ask me. I've never seen a more smooth, crisp technical wrestler in my nearly 30 years as a fan. He is absolutely invaluable to the future generation of wrestlers and to whoever hires him next.

Anyone else remember that rumour doing the rounds in 2006 that he and Benoit campaigned to do an Eddie tribute match at the second ECW One Night Stand? I remember hearing Dean went back into training for it and everything, but then Benoit went down with a hurt shoulder or something shortly before and it was scrapped. I always wondered how that would’ve turned out.
