Yeah I’ve always disagreed that authority figures is a dead end. Wwe tropes are dying, but that’s on them. AEW kinda needs one. A bunch of their top stars are executive vp, logic dictates you need one otherwise why the hell wouldn’t Cody or the Bucks constantly book themselves in title matches? They don’t have to appear all the time, or often at all, but there needs to be a known, established authority figure to explain why things are run fair. Regal in NXT and Johnny Saint and his muppet in UK are good examples on how to use the role. Agreed there are ways to do this without being the McMahon’s

I'd be hype if we just got a neutral type of figure who's generally impartial but has to make tough decisions.
Authority figures by itself isn't the issue. THe evil authority figure that's all over the f***ing shows is the trope that needs to die.

Even a heel authority figure could work if it’s actually written well.

Any predictions on what kind of rating they could be aiming for?

Honestly, as weird as it might sound, one of the things I'm most excited about AEW getting a TV show is just seeing how they approach the overall aesthetics of the show. Ring designs, entrance looks, it's all stuff I really mark out over. I love looking at people's custom AEW arenas on the internet. Oh, and title belts too. I hope they have some classy looking gold. I hope it's not just a giant logo lol. I like intricacies, like how WWE's old title belts had.

Trevor and Arthur should be the authority figures. Use them as offensive Jack Tunney's. Pure gold.

Speaking of titles I wonder if they will forego belts entirely for something else to symbolize who the champions are to shake things up. Sort of how Cody had the "Ring" of honor.

That was fun, but didn't they do that as an elegant work around due to ROH having licensing disputes with the person who designed their world title?

The Championship Ring was an interesting idea, but I feel like not having a belt makes it seem less flashy and regal due to the size of it. It's more personal to the champ, but for the pageantry of it, it's lacking. Rings are given out to players in sports because they can't share in the trophy, it's more of a team symbol than an individual symbol.

And Chris Masters/Moore/Adonis/Mordetzky should be the one who reveals it.

Remains to be seen I guess but I feel like they're going to go with more of a throwback look and a lot of the time that's just plain not an aesthetic I like. Like... These, with the tiny plates and the non-black strap? Awful.

That was a thing of beauty.

Dario Cueto never cut his nose off to spite his face, and Dario was equal opportunity in screwing people over. Basically, he was GM Bischoff taken to the nth degree. Cueto cares about getting good matches, because good matches means more money.

A representative for ESPN/Disney at their upfronts said that AEW did not come to them for a deal, referring to them as "that other company" when asked about the WWE.

Reading the Wrestling Observer Rewinds on Reddit and they've just gotten to March 2001 - the end of WCW, talking about (now former) Turner CEO Jamie Kellner's relative hatred of wrestling. How times have changed, huh....

How times have changed, huh.... Kellner was out of there by 2003. If anything, networks did want wrestling, but you can see how TNA killed off that goodwill within the last decade.

Do the people at turner still hate wrestling or did Ted turner get some power back? I could some issues if the network is still run by people embarrassed to have it and expecting WWE numbers. I doubt Turner is making power moves, he's 80 and fighting Lewy body dementia
