So a month or 2 back WB announced a new Scooby Doo movie. 3D animated, with recastings galore.... Zac Efron as Fred Jones (Fred Welker, the voice of Fred for 50 years, is out - but remains as the voice of Scooby Doo) Amanda Seyfried as Daphne Blake Gina Rodriguez as Velma Dinkley Will Forte as Shaggy Rogers And then they cast Tracy Morgan as Captain Caveman, which was out of the blue. And this weekend, this movie became a more widespread Hanna-Barbera project, with more of those characters added -- Mark Wahlberg as Blue Falcon, Ken Jeong as Dynomutt and Jason Isaacs as Dick Dastardly. deadline.com/2019/05/mark-wahlberg-jason-isaacs-board-warner-bros-scoob-1202610831/

This feels like I made some weird Monkey Paw wish which backfired on me and I feel I should apologize.
“So you wanted a Hanna Barbera crossover movie? Sure, we’ll just gut most of the present Scooby Doo cast, Tracy Morgan is Captain Caveman and Mark Wahlberg is Blue Falcon!”
“I...don’t...what?!”
“Oh, and Jason Issacs is Dick Dastardly”
“...meh, I’ll take it”

Apparently the guy who's voiced Shaggy didn't know about the recasting at all until reading about it online. So, dick move there.

[Movie exec] VAs don't put asses in theaters, you know. [/Movie exec] (which is what I kinda said over in the Jim Cummings thread...the names of these people are becoming more and more obscure today, as only cartoon characters with A-list celebrity VAs are pushed) And is not letting Welker be Fred reminding anyone else of Tiffany-gate back in Jetsons: The Movie? I mean say what you want about Michael Bay, but at least he let Peter Cullen stay as Optimus Prime and wasn't afraid to have other pro VAs up front.

Wow, someone else here knows about the Tiffany thing from Jetsons: The Movie? Poor Tiffany.. I mean it wasn't her fault she was cast to do the thing to promote her failing career.

Didn't like it when I was 13, even then I wasn't buying what Universal was selling. When I got the VHS I actually watched the heck out of the movie, but no, always thought Tiffany was half-assing it. And now that I heard the whole story, about how Janet Waldo recorded all of the movie beforehand and etc. etc., I like it less.

I'd like to see it with Janet's voice acting work though.

But it was all right to me...I guess when you watch it at home, it's less offensive than having to pay to see a 90-minute typical Jetsons episode in theaters. It was a preachy film, I know. And I wondered where was Cogswell, Henry the janitor, and etc. etc. (It was like TF:TM when you asked where all the 1985 characters that appeared in season 2 were) I also wonder if her recordings were saved at all. Not that J:TM warrants a special edition.

I know, but it was so shiny and tempting and it told me I can make Hanna Barbera relavent! I admit, it was an odd thing to be told by a object that can literally do anything but still!

Recasting Matthew Lillard is particularly weird. Will Forte's a bigger name, sure, but it's still not stunt casting that makes any particular sense when Lillard's not a nobody, anyway, and no one is going to buy a ticket for Forte alone.
Whatever, I guess. The only constant in Scooby Doo is a total lack of consistency.

Matthew Lillard (SCREAM, and the live action Scooby Doo movies) has been the voice of Shaggy for almost 10 years now, FYI. That said, if WB is still WB then there should be lots of direct to DVD and teevee fare regarding Scooby Doo which they'd be dumb to replace Lillard on.

I'm amazed that kids today care about the Scooby characters. The whole concept seems so dated and rooted in the 70's.

The average person probably doesn't know who Mathew Lillard is unless you show them a picture of him.

Guy has been doing a really good job on the cartoons they've popped out recently. Just a shame that they did the recasting and he had to find out that way after doing so well with it for so long.
