Russo wishes that McMahon would take him back. He hired him back in 02 but Russo embarrassed himself by not knowing anything about the current wwe product that he lasted less than a week before getting fired. And his big idea was "let's do the invasion again" They then made him a consultant or something instead of creative proper and he quit

Jerry Jarrett claims that after this meeting Russo was fired four days later.

I said this way back in the Moxley thread that it was too good to be true and I was afraid as Hell that it was a WWE creation.
Now lately I remembered something HHH said in 2018:"we have listened to the fans and there's gonna be big changes in 2019". Now since by looking at WWE TV nothing has changed much so booking wise they changed nothing. So the big change might have been just that, starting a a fake company to then make them rivals and starting an invasion to boost up the business. It's a great idea actually. But the moment this thing would be known as fake, oh boy, nobody will recover. It would drove fans away in droves worse than WWE is now.
On paper the way HHH built NXT, it proves that he could pull something like this, starting his own promotion with tight booking. In many ways AEW could be his WCW.
I don't think there's anything to build on this idea though other than Sami Zayn saying AEW on TV. I'm just hoping this is not true. We have a freakin billionaire on board with real money, why would he need Vince?

He also pitched for Bischoff to debut in WWE as part of the new invasion so at least they took his idea and turned into reality but of course they were afraid to go deep with Bischoff so it was all half baked. Bischoff owns Vince when it comes to authority character and acting in general. Invasion redoux was not a bad idea especially since by then they had access to THE WCW talent that was missing on the first try. I just guess they didn't believe in themselves after the first try which has to be considered one of the biggest main storyline flops in company's history.

Instead of Booker T and his merry band of inconsequential jobbers, they actually had most of the major players from WCW by 2002. Doing an invasion properly in 2002 would have been a great way to purge the memory of the horrible attempt they made the year before. Wow, I just defended Russo, I feel so dirty!

AEW and WWE were in the closet making babies and I saw one of the babies and the baby looked at me!

Russo is basing this theory off the precedent set by this OFFICIAL WWE video made last year:
Xavier Woods clearly stated that Omega, the Bucks and The New Day went into business for themselves to 'do business a different way' than what the restrictive WWE (read "Vince McMahon") usually forces talent to do. I.E. 'don't do things with talent from other promotions'. On the surface he's probably only trying to say that UpUpDownDown is his 'baby' and he can get himself, Kenny Omega and anybody else over even if they are outside of the WWE because of the freedom of the internet. But if you read between the lines and rewatch this entire, expertly-booked live competition between the two most popular factions in AEW and The WWE, respectively, and it could be seen in a wholly-different light (especially after Moxley on Talk is Jericho spilled the beans about how stifling it is to work in WWE).
...are we being worked by McMahon? Moxley was fed those lines and Jericho was in on it too? Kofi was made WHC because Xavier Woods is a lockerroom leader since he's besties with Kenny Omega?
Also MJF mentioned stuff that happened at the WWE HoF ceremony, then Sami Zayn gave AEW a shout out the next Monday on RAW. Certainly does seem to be a case you could make especially if I were an unstable conspiracy theorist like Russo.

Russo is just mad that a new company came along that pays top dollar and they aren't dumb enough to hire him like Dixie.

Vince McMahon's business dealings would make most of his wealthier rivals blush with embarrassment. It's one thing to make a business deal with an oppressive regime to increase trade; it's quite another to become that regime's official propagandist.
The new deals with the networks are unknown quantities which can either make mainstream stars out of everyone on the main roster, or will force Vince's exit as CEO. Vince has long felt that 'rasslin' was beneath his dignity and would rather have made his money in movies or with a "real" sport.

From what I believed over the years, I thought that Russo intentionally dropped those preposterous ideas because he wanted to be fired by them. As I always thought: -Russo was still in an iron-clad contract by AOL/Time Warner in 2002. -He wanted to work for Jeff Jarrett's newly formed NWA-TNA promotion but could not work for them due to his iron-clad contract. -He contacted WWE with the intention that they could buy out his contract and pretended he wanted to work with them again. -WWE bought out his contract, he was hired and proposed those ideas to get himself intentionally fired. -After fired, he immediately went to work for NWA-TNA as was his original intention all along.

I think he got fired and dropped out of wcw after pitching for Tank Abbott to win the belt. Therefore he started with tna from day one, you can see his blueprint on those horrible first months. He then went to wwe and got fired four days later according to Jerry Jarrett, finally he went to tna.
