Considering all he's done in just a few years, he'd have to have pretty rough self esteem not to. I guess I should have clarified. He has every right to have a big head about AEW. I just think that hyping a "big announcement" only to have it be him vs. Jericho is a little much. You don't tease that, you just announce it. You tease things like surprise debuts and whatnot. I don't know, I like Cody a lot, but I don't think he's worthy of "big surprise" hype in his own promotion. We all expected a Jericho match at some point. To be fair, this was Cody promoting a big announcement. AEW themselves weren’t promoting a big announcement as far as I knew.

Also, who else was credible besides Cody? Jimmy Havok? And as much as I like him as a performer he isnt credible enough yet to fight for the World Title.

if PAC wins the first week I can see him being a contender. Or someone else that gets a positive winning score Moxley maybe?I doubt they would have him lose so early but I don`t think anyone wants to see Moxley vs Jericho again, not on PPV at least

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure those fans doing the "blood and guts" thing is a direct sarcastic response to Vince McMahon insulting AEW for being in his own words a "blood and guts" promotion that is beneath him. Vince used those exact words.

Jericho is totally the kind of guy who'd do that, too, then panic and overkill the opponent if he almost got pinned or otherwise got rattled.

Vince used those exact words. Yeah, it's been a sort of rallying cry, especially since one of the symptoms of WWE's sanitized wrestling for some is they got rid of bleeding. Whether or not I agree about it, I do think it played into AEW's hands nicely.

I don't really see the issue with Cody, like someone else said pretty much by every metric you can measure it he is a main eventer for the company easily and he has the win record to justify the shot, and does anyone really think Cody's winning this shot? Really?
Like, I'll eat crow and admit I was wrong if he does, but this screams to me that they are using Cody in this role in the best way possible. To be a first challenger for their champion as they are on their way to establishing their championship and their champion's reign, while not ignoring Cody and making an elephant in the room in the process.
It doesn't scream to me multiple time world champion Jeff Jarrett or Triple H. It sounds like someone knowing their worth to their promotion and using it to help create a more solid kayfabed hierarchy within the roster.

Of course Cody's going to hype up an announcement that he's competing for the AEW Championship. He's competing for the top prize in the company. That's a big deal to him. And he did it on his own personal social media accounts, not using the AEW accounts' platforms. People are being really pedantic about this.
The other difference between Cody and a Jeff Jarrett or Triple H (so far) is that he's putting on some of the best matches in the company and everything he's won so far has felt earned. He got me to think that a match with him vs. his older brother was one of the best matches of the year. If you told me this time last year that Cody vs Dustin Rhodes would be a genuine MOTY candidate in the Year of our Lord 2019, I would've laughed my face off at you. But damn did they do a hell of a job with that.

They also made fun of it with "MORE BLOOD AND GUTS" on the whiteboard in the AEW conference room either during a BTE or Road To All Out thing. AEW's been pretty good at taking shots from WWE and using them for their own benefit.

Damnit, I didn't think I'd go into this feeling sympathetic towards Sammy. Guess he's just a douche to Cutler lol. We say it all the time but if these kinds of promos are a sign of what we'll get on TNT then we're in for a treat.

I am digging Sammy, and I'm always inclined to root for Texan guys, but given Cody's probably my favorite going today with Rusev getting mothballed by WWE, I am torn on who I want to win the first match of AEW on TNT.

I will kinda miss those Road To ___ when TV starts Hopefully the show will cannibalize much of the Road To... series as a part of the show presentation. edit: Also I want Cody to lose to Sammy Guevara as an interesting piece of storytelling, so the month of October can be dedicated to the question of "Well, who is the next contender since Cody has dropped the ball looking past Sammy (who lost to Kip Sabian [who lost to Adam Page {who lost to Le Champion}]).

BTE and the Road To... videos are a big part of what makes me like AEW besides the actual in-ring product. I really hope we get similar style segments on the TNT weekly show because I think it could make for a more interesting presentation style than the usual in-ring promos and backstage segments interspersed between matches.
I really liked how that video set up the stakes for the Cody vs Guevara match. Sammy's got everything to prove. He wants the world to see him as a major player in the company. Meanwhile, Cody talked about the perception about his position in the company hierarchy and selling the match that if he lost, it could put his title shot at Full Gear into jeopardy.

They're not going to cancel the title match or anything, that's already surefire. Guessing they're going to have Sammy get some close calls, but Cody puts him away after initially underestimating them, sort of like Cena's debut versus Angle, or Ziggler's debut against Batista.

Cody has been very insistent in both outside and now inside AEW interviews that "card subject to change" can refer to someone losing contention and it would be an interesting twist on the first match on TV 'ruining' the title defense in Baltimore.

Just going off of what Tony Khan has said, he wants to keep most of the show in the ring, and that, I can stand behind. What I would do is 100% keep the Road To series going, but plugging it on the show. Definitely throughout the broadcast they should mention when the next episode will air (possibly even having each new episode premiere directly after the show), as a way to build up their social media and channel presence. The fans love them, and they get enough views on them to keep it going so why not maintain that? Seems like a no brainer to me. I think this move would be perfect for people who are tired of such promo heavy and "backstage segment" riddled shows that this would be a damn near perfect way to please the masses.

We say it all the time but if these kinds of promos are a sign of what we'll get on TNT then we're in for a treat. They portrayed Brandi as a sympathetic figure going into Fight for the Fallen, only for her to immediately put the screws to Allie in their match, so I don't think Sammy is going to be any less of a douche on TNT.
