Whatever he is, I wish they'd stop trying to 'make' him at the end of his matches. Breeze is the third or fourth opponent now who's done the "I respect you" thing after losing to him. I like the guy a lot, but it's annoying. If people don't believe Dream is legit by now, they never will, stop trying to force it. Also kinda worse since Dream cheated a bit to win...

He's ECW-era Rob Van Dam. He's an ass, he's arrogant, he cheats, but he gets the job done and loves the crowds adulation.

I think once he makes the main roster he'll be a heel because Vince wont get him.

He's definitely going to become Stephanie’s gay personal hairdresser because “it’s good shit, he’ll get a ton of heat!”

The Aleister Black one was great, it made sense within the narrative and it put Dream on the map as a serious player. Since then, it's just propping Dream up in a way he genuinely doesn't need to be propped up. Beating people is enough to prove they're not better than him. He doesn't need other wrestlers giving him respect or accepting defeat. It's starting to look like NXT's version of "Hogan must pose".

He is the now standard NXT face who acts almost identically to when he was a heel, including being heelish, but never turns.
I am usually on board with characters more varying with alignments but I hate how face turns so rarely happen now.

I think like any truly good, charismatic heel tends to do- he got over and became a babyface due to people thinking he is so cool and entertaining.
One of the issues with modern NXT is this transition happens on their tv. When they come to the main roster they are presented as their fully formed self, instead of hitting rewind and letting that transition play out before the newer, bigger audience. So, you have these faces who had an emotional attachment to the NXT audience because they watched their journey, but no attachment on the main roster because they weren’t privy to that transition.

This is a huge issue with NXT callups. Dream will seem incredibly heelish if he doesn't go back heel on the main roster, because people need to see how good he is to cheer him. It also killed Bo Dallas, whose gimmick as a motivational type only worked because of the whole slow burn heel turn he did in NXT. The gimmick itself might work fresh out the box but that wasn't what happened.

But good in a way. Velveteen is booked as a heel against both Black and Breeze. When he loses against Black, he gets the babyface rub by 'winning' (Black says his name). When he wins against Breeze via heelish tactics, he still gets a babyface rub with the selfie by Breeze. In the latter case, it's more of a callback to Black's 'saying of the name' out of respeck, which I think is a big enough moment in NXT history for Dream that it deserves to be milked in future storylines lol

I actually think this a legit concern of HHH and he's waiting to call Dream up until he has a little more pull over what happens on the main roster shows. Hopefully he realizes at least that Dream is a legit huge star is handled correctly and he doesn't want Vince to screw that up.
