My first impulse is to mention the Hanna-Barbera version of Popeye. Oh the characters were there and recognizable, but you know, '70s anti-violence rules and all.
EDIT: I could even see an argument made for Popeye in general. Not by me, I loved (most of) the cartoons. But I know there's Thimble Theatre purists out there ready to say, "not all the Popeye comics involved him and Bluto fighting over Olive! And Popeye wasn't a useless wimp until he ate his spinach!"

And oh yeah.....Popeye and Son....

Although it's not entirely the tamest comic there is, I felt something was off when Baby Blues was adapted. On the one hand, you have to give the showrunners credit for having the balls to play it at the very beginning of their parenthood when Zoe was born instead of doing it around the time of the strip when Hammie existed, but on the other hand, it meant that raising a family would be inconsequential. Also didn't help that your supporting cast was hicks.

I might be in a minority here but the Dilbert series was poor.

I might be in a minority here but the Dilbert series was poor. The only decent moment was with Stone Cold’s cameo.

Can we agree the Shmoo is another that was watered down by H-B?
