Who are some talent that had tremendous success with one or more promotions then after they jumped ship for whatever reason something just felt off about them in their new surroundings? Two great examples are Bret Hart in WCW or The Steiner's in WWF. Most recently EC3 in WWE. I'm sure there are tons of others, or maybe not?

Ric Flair's initial WWF tenure produced some awesome things, like the Rumble he won, but some of it also felt like a major mismatch. I think it'd have helped if he had a Horsemen-like setup in order to threaten Hogan physically in the manner he was more accustomed to, and because WWF didn't really do a lot of that style of stable, mostly having manager-centric ones, so it'd stand out. As it is, he seemed to be a hard sell for a lot of WWF diehards at the time, and the Hogan/Flair feud wasn't impressing in house show sells. Shame, because some of it was really a lot of fun.

Mick Foley didn't feel right to me in TNA. Always felt right being in WWE.
DDP being in WWF/E, but that might just due to WWE not doing anything too great with him. But he just seems like a WCW guy to me.
Ultimate Warrior didn't work in WCW, but that might also be because it was 1998 and they were doing some dumb stuff with him that didn't fit. But regardless when I go back and watch him his character is just perfect for early 90s WWF.

The Road Warriors. Changing name to Legion of Doom and really just didnt seem a good fit in the WWf. didnt help that the tag division was falling

Bret Hart in WCW - was a huge fan at the time and 11 year old me felt like Bret didn't belong. Seeing clips now, feels like Bret took a huge step down the ladder. Hogan in general from WM6-NWO. Really needed a makeover.
Edit; most former long time WWF guys; as noted above Warrior, Piper, Savage (to.me anyway), Hennig, Dibiase.

Even before the Bart Gunn KO, Dr Death didn't fit for me in the WWF
I know it was part of the NWA angle but Rock N Roll Express looked like a relic from a different time

If we can count non-wrestling talent, how about Heenan and Mean Gene in WCW? Or Ms Elizabeth in WCW for that matter.
I don't think Hogan fit in WCW until he joined NWO. Then things just clicked. However, as noted above, even though to me he's WWF personified from like 84 to about 91, by 1993 he looked really out of place. I just watched the Wrestlemania 9 main event, and he just didn't look right when he came out to face Yokozuna.

Heenan in WCW didn't care about the product and doing a good job. He needed Vince and Gorilla to keep him sober and focussed.
Furnas and Lafon were a WCW workrate tag team in a company where only personality mattered.
The Heavenly bodies were a great fit for the NWA in 1986, in the mid 90s wwf, not do much. Corny was equally lost.

It's not a slight on any of them, but most of the ECW wrestlers who turned up in the WWF after 2000/2001 didn't fit in the slightest. Tommy Dreamer, Justin Credible, even Tazz and Raven, I just didn't buy as WWF wrestlers. They had their limitations exposed and their styles didn't mesh with what was going on there at the time. Some suffered from bad booking but others just weren't that good in that new environment.

Sandman in WCW as Hak
Arn & Tully as rhe Brainbusters in WWF. They had some success, but never clicked for me 100% there.
Davey Boy Smith in WCW
Vader in the WWF

The British Jeansdog in 1999 felt ridiculously out of place.

Paul Roma in WCW/The Horseman. Earthquake in mid 90s WWF (he’d only been gone two years but seemed out of place). Hogan in 1993 WWF. Most long term WWF guys in mid/late 90s WCW.

All the nostalgia shit in 97/98 WWF. They had just spent the last four years saying “It’s the New Generation! It’s not like that old wrestling you remember!” then cut to 97 and we’ve JR voicing over old footage the Blackjacks or Rocky Johnson saying “remember these guys?” Calling them wrestling legends when most of the audience started watching sometime during the Hogan era and don’t know who any of these people are. Or bringing back the Rock N Roll Express and starting up a new Midnight Express, even though neither of those teams ever worked for the company before.

I think Raven was a good enough worker, and a fantastic personality, that he really could have been something special. They just didn't want him to be.

Tatanka & Animal on Smackdown in.... 2005/2006? Especially after they both turned heel. Tatanka never felt right as a heel to me even back in the day & it’s hard to buy any of the previous generation as legit heels (except mid 90s crazy Backlund) because of the nostalgia pop.

Some suffered from bad booking but others just weren't that good in that new environment. About the only long-term successes were the Dudleys and RVD, everyone else kind of proved that Paul was really good at hiding the flaws. Rhyno probably would have had more success if that injury didn't derail him but part of Rhyno and Tazz's appeal was that they were booked as legitimate powerhouses in a company that didn't have many intimidating big men outside of outliers like Bam Bam and Mike Awesome. Once they got to WWF, Vince didn't want to book them in the dominating fashion that got them over so they very quickly became just another guy on the roster.
