Ring of Honor “Proving Grounds: Night One”
February 6th, 2009
From the Coral Springs Gymnasium in Coral Springs, Florida
Commentators: Lenny Leonard and Dave Prazak
Roderick Strong and Eric are prepping Bobby Dempsey for their match against Kenny King, Rhett Titus and Chasyn Rance.
Shawn Osborne vs. Brad Attitude
This was a really good opener from two people no one has ever heard of. Brad Attitude was really good but that name was unfortunate.
Winner: Brad Attitude
Sal Rinauro vs. Bison Smith
This was a vicious squash.
Winner: Bison Smith
Kenny King, Rhett Titus & Chasyn Rance w/? vs. Roderick Strong, Erick Stevens & Bobby Dempsey
So I guess towards the end of his run in Ring of Honor Bobby Dempsey left Sweet and Sour Inc. and then had a run as a serious wrestler? Okay. He was terrible and the way he moved I’m surprised he never killed anyone or himself. Kenny King and Rhett Titus were much better than I’m used to seeing them though. This was a good match.
Winners: Roderick Strong, Erick Stevens & Bobby Dempsey
Brian Danielson is backstage warming up and he’s prepared to compete tonight despite recently suffering a concussion. Really? Brian Danielson? Wrestling despite a concussion? NEVER!! That won’t come back to haunt him later in his career! No siree bob!
Austin Aries vs. Necro Butcher
This was one of those Necro Butcher matches where he wrestled more than brawled. I’m not a fan of those. Aries did a great job of making it all look good though.
Winner: Austin Aries
Tokyo Summit DVD ad.
The Age of the Fall vs. Bryan Danielson & Jerry Lynn
The team of Danielson and Lynn should have called themselves “Team Indie Markout Wet Dream Joygasm f*** WWE I’m Real”. There was a guy in the front row at this show that looked like his head was about to explode from all this excitement. It was a really good match.
Winners: Team Indie Markout Wet Dream Joygasm f*** WWE I’m Real
Brent Albright vs. Nigel McGuinness
This was a really good match.
Winner: Nigel McGuinness
The Dark City Fight Club vs. Kevin Steen & el Generico
Another really good match.
Winners: Kevin Steen & el Generico
Driven PPV ad.
Davey Richards w/Larry Sweeney vs. Tyler Black
This match was ten years ago and Tyler Black looks exactly the same today. It was another really good match. I don’t like repeating myself so much but that’s just the way it is.
Winner: Tyler Black

The roster at this show was really weak. Where the hell were the Briscoes, Claudio Castagnoli and Chris Hero? And Mike Quackenbush? I’m not sure if it was just Ring of Honor at the time or the fact that they decided to not bring as many of their usual guys this far south and instead used a bunch of the FIP guys? I think it was the latter. When I stopped and remembered the show was called “Proving Grounds” it all made sense because of that a lot of the guys brought their A-games and were as good or better than I’ve ever seen them. There wasn’t s bad match on this show but there weren’t any classics either. Everything was very quickly paced and it was a solid four-star show worth your time.
