Pretty much this. Didn’t read the show thread but yeah, they did their job well. It’s harder to do it for these PPV format shows because TV’d help them get over way better as you don’t need them to appear outside of promos so I don’t blame them for putting them out there as soon as. It is a misstep but not offensive. I also think starting them out in a triple threat wasn't the best plan; that kind of match is great if you're A Boy and His Dinosaur or Evans/Angelico: those are teams that that can be defined by their offense (though obviously ABahD also have the very obvious gimmicks and size differential helping them stand out), which is often perfect for the format, but the crowd needed a proper introduction to Dark Order, and putting them into a match format that revolves around "everyone get your shit in!" wasn't the right call, for me. I say it's far from unsalvageable, the two are way too talented for that, but this is where a promotion needs to do its job and promote properly, not everybody's going to come in and click right away with an audience with no explanation/background given. That was my biggest issue. Even Evans & Angelico didn't get much offense in. It was Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus for about 75% of the match, Dark Order getting their spots in at the end, and Angelico hitting Jungle Boy with the Fall of the Angels somewhere in the middle. It was a great showcase for ABahD, which is good, since they're a young tag team you want to build a tag division around for years to come, but it doesn't help the other two teams who were also making their debuts in that match. The background is also something they need to address. AEW seem to be going out of their way to not bring up the Super Smash Bros. (possibly in fear of legal action by Nintendo), meaning the video game references make no sense to fans who haven't seen them before. One of the commentators off-handedly brought up Uno and Grayson being bitter because they weren't getting bookings in the US anymore, and that's something that's somewhat central to the gimmick change, so it shouldn't be something you say "oh, by the way..." about. To echo what I've said in other threads, as much as AEW needs heels right now, I just want the SSBs back. Give them a different name, let them be the goofy babyfaces they can be, and let them show why they made a splash on the indies in the mid-2000s in the first place.

Give Evil Uno two toned boxer shorts. Give him a towel. Change name to Samoa Moe.

I didn't quite understand the freak out some people were having about them in the show thread, thought they were just fine in the match, but I agree that AEW needs to get people invested in why these guys are doing what they're doing. For a promotion that's done a hell of a job building up relative unknowns, they've glossed over these guys too much, which isn't a great idea given they've got a gimmick that needs some explanation. Hard to expect the crowd to care about them enough when they can't really know what their story is. Agreed. I think they should've saved them until the TV show considering their gimmicks. That sorta thing would benefit a lot more from a regular TV show versus sporadic PPV shows and internet vignettes. Vignettes before they showed up would have great, even if relegated to BTE.

Uno is too much of a grab bag. It doesn't come together to form a cohesive act. He needs to refine that.
The two of them also really need new gear, because this isn't working.

Their tag team finisher is REALLY good, which got enough of a reaction to help them in their future work. They have some shit to iron out but I don't think it's that. Honestly, they got good reactions to quite a bit of their offense, it's just really the gimmick that's hurting them right now. But as mentioned, the TV show should help them with that.

I actually really enjoy them. I love the way that the Creepers form together to create a throne for Evil Uno. I’ve always enjoyed the work of SSB...always thought they were underrated so I’m happy to see them getting a chance.

I didn't see the show, but it sounds like Uno is wrestling like Uno. Which makes total sense when his gimmick is "CAW come to life" but otherwise is literally the worst psychology ever

I think there awesome. I love the look of Uno and his Creepers, Grayson is a bit bland looking but the two of them together had some great tag team moves. That human chair gimmick is very cool and the whole minions thing on a whole is pretty sweet. Are people just annoyed there not called the super smash bros now? Are you moaning cos Grayson said "get over here" during a move and thats used in a video game so they must be called SSB because of this?

I'm on the other side of the fence it seems as far as the team goes.
I dig Evil Uno and like the gimmick, but I can't stand Tiny Kratos.
He wrestles like he's Luchasaurus, doesn't sell well, and just seems out of place to the gimmick, and personally comes off as a try hard.
I don't like his gear, I don't like that he presents his style as if he's 6'5", and nothing about him works for me.
I get why people might not like Uno more, but it's opposite for me. Dude has serious get off my screen heat to the point it bugs me so much that I know it's irrational, but it's there.

They had a few cool double team moves, but they look like a couple backyard jabronis and it really ruins it for me. Give them some new gear and MAYBE they'll start growing on me.

Boys are so dookie they made me make the SSB lose the titles in my EWR diary. Just on principle. And this whole time I just thought they were supposed to be transitional champs to give Mox and Sami the belts without them beating another heel team...

It's utter shite that doesn't work in a mainstream promotion thats about to get a cable deal.
I'm not against goofy stuff, a boy and his dinasour for example and Firefly Fun House are the most entertaining things in wrestling at the moment.
But this reeks of something that works in front of 50 people expecting some naff sillyness at a chikara show in a rec centre not something that should be in a legit wrestling promotion.
Maybe it could be improved with a bit of fleshing out, why is one of them a man in a mask called Evil Uno then the other one is just some generic looking bald dude with a goatee called Stu? Why not call him Evil Dos for consistency? That one tweak would make it slightly less hokey.

(I’m only joking, Player Dos got hurt so I had to find a way to get the titles off them stat)

The easiest way to fix the Dark Order is give them a female valet/wrestler, it did wonders for a group like the Decay in old TNA imo.

Uno needs to wrestle in a Shirt or a singlet.

Uno needs to wrestle in a Shirt or a singlet. He used to, even when he started doing the Evil Uno gimmick. I don't know when or why he stopped.

I'd never heard of them before AEW
I like the idea of them, but the smaller one looks really unthreatening, could do with a mask too, and the big guy need a to wrestle like a monster. Pretty sure in that tag match the big guy was throwing himself all over the place within seconds, selling hard for jungle boy I think. And didn't he get scared by luchasaurous?
It seems like a gimmick where they need to be tough and shown as a big deal, not a gimmick where they get their asses kicked and steal wins

I saw complaints about the video game references in the live thread...I’m squarely in the camp of “they’re actually good, give them time” but that’s actually a criticism I do sort of understand. And it’s maybe AEW’s biggest issue on the whole (and I say this as someone who LOVES AEW and thinks it’s poised to be a big success.) The Dark Order just sort of showed up, with no explanation of who they are or what they stand for. The video game references are a vestige of an old gimmick that is so obscure, it almost comes off as an inside joke to the hardcore indie wrestling fans. But AEW is poised to become a successful mainstream product and the kind of fans that are aware of SSB make up about .01% of the “mainstream” audience. This is the same thing that has caused the Librarians to flop...it’s a hilarious tongue-in-cheek joke on BTE, but only a small percentage of the audience actually watches BTE so it comes across as goofy and lame on the actual shows.

This was my first time seeing these guys. Gotta say, I don’t get the hate. Evil Uno, while obviously not in shape, makes it work with the gimmick. Reminds me of a big, gross final boss. Love the creeper throne. I really wish I knew why the other guy was Stu Grayson. I’d heard of the Super Smash Bros before, but I remember hearing their names as Player Uno and Player Dos, so I’m confused about that, but whatever, I dig the gimmick and team.
Boy and His Dinosaur are definitely the stars tho.
