68% second weekend drop, same as Eternals and Multiverse of Madness.

It had a higher opening weekend than Ragnarok, but a worse second weekend. The “Eh, it was ok” audience response to their last few movies is really starting to show.

I've seen a lot of rumblings that for some people Endgame was kinda the finale for them. There are also those who have been fatigued by the MCU. I'm personally still here for it. But I feel like until there's a another team movie we may not see quite the same success as before. I'm still having a good time though.

You say that, but No Way Home took $1.9 billion at the box office, Multiverse of Madness took just under $1 billion, and Love and Thunder has taken $420 million in eight days and looks like at least matching Ragnarok's box office total. Eternals aside, I don't think there's anywhere close to the huge drop in quality compared to previous phases that some people assert, but it definitely feels like there's a content overload. I've not seen Love and Thunder or Ms. Marvel yet, and I'm only one episode into Moon Knight so far, and I'm kinda glad She-Hulk is still a full month away.

That's fair, it may entirely be that I'm just being exposed to an echo chamber. I hadn't really looked much at numbers.

You can't forget those that are waiting for the Disney+ release. Why go see the movie more than once in a theater, when it going to be on Disney+ in a month? Multiverse of Madness was on D+ 47 days after its theatrical release. There's a good chance Love and Thunder will follow the same timeframe.

I think a big drop will be the new standard for these films. The big fans who really want to see it in a theater will go opening weekend. The people hesitant to go to theaters with big crowds will see it in smaller amounts over the next few weeks. But you have a big audience who will just wait for Disney Plus, like me. And as you said why go to the theater more than once, wait for Plus.

For me personally I still love seeing stuff in the theater. There's something about the experience that is different from watching it at home. Granted you run the risk that someone is an asshat in the audience but I normally just wait a week or two and I get into a showing with few people and it's great.

Yeah, I think the 45-day cinema window before it jumps onto Disney+ isn't going to stop people from seeing it in cinemas, but it will stop the repeat viewings. So you're more likely to get these mammoth first-week box offices and then steep drop-offs, especially if the movies aren't hitting the heights of the top MCU films. I doubt Disney will care as long as those first-week box office numbers remain good and the Disney+ subscription numbers remain high.

Saw this yesterday and I enjoyed it a lot, though I do agree with those saying they're tapped out on the MCU after Endgame. I invested 11 years into watching all these 2-3 hour movies leading up to Endgame and I have no motivation to do that again, especially adding multiple Disney+ series (themselves being 4-5 hour affairs at a minimum) to the mix. It's just too much content for me.

I'd say if Endgame was the finale, No Way Home was the epilogue

I realized for me that the best way to not get burnt out on the MCU, as I was feeling was starting to happen a little, is to not watch the shows. Wandavision is the only thing I saw in full, and Falcon & Winter Solider is the only other one I bothered watching any of at all.
Between the frequency of their releases and, to be frank, not really caring about *more* new characters, I found I just can't do it. It was starting to feel like overload.

I go to the theater for MCU movies because it’s hard enough not to be spoiled leading up to the film… let alone the 45 days after.

I'd say if Endgame was the finale, No Way Home was the epilogue Maybe. Legit thought NWH was great fan service. And a hell of an entertaining flick. Since Endgame, the movies have been: Far from home- from what I remember, mostly positive reviews. I thought it was alright. Shang-Chi - Didn’t watch but seemed to get a good reception. Eternals - dubious reaction to say the least. Also didn’t watch. No way home - Spectacle of a movie. Doctor Strange - mostly positive reviews, I thought it was meh. And now Thor getting mixed/bad reviews but earning 700m worldwide. Crazy. Pretty sure every previous movie made a lot of money too but delivery has been all over the place. Wakanda Forever is probably going to kill it in every regard. “The Marvels” I barely know about. GOTG 3 will be interesting and I’m guessing Quantumania is also going to set up a lot of big stuff. They’re also announcing the Fantastic Four cast/director soon so I think stuffs going to start ramping up.

Also Black Widow. I don't recall the reception to that, though I liked it well enough. Reception was "Well, it's pretty good, but has arrived about seven years too late."
