The inspiration for this thread was Robert Roode's sell of the Recoil on monday night, but it's a constant that has thousands of examples. The wrestler gets hit with some kind of high impact move, then oversells by jumping to show how much boom the move held. No doubt there are good examples of it, but for the most part, it is so obvious that it was a deliberate jump by the receiving wrestler, and then in Roode's case, he carefully positions himself for the 630. This kind of thing just completely takes me out of the match, it reminds me that what I'm watching is "fake". Not a fan of it.

You mean the Stone Cold Stunner Bounce thing that everyone does since they saw how popular Rock's selling was.

A lot of wrestling selling is unrealistic if you think about it too much. Like taking a punch and doing a fast "snap" down to the mat and popping back up in a split second to take another one.

That kind of thing I can accept as part of the game, like guys being able to just take a punch from a heavyweight and not being knocked out cold. It's where a guy takes a move, plants themselves, then clearly jumps that I'm talking about. The Raw match actually had 2 examples, one bad, one perfect. Roode takes the recoil, lands on his feet and jumps up to land on his back (then moves himself into position for the 630), it was clear and obvious. Later, during the AJ beatdown, Richochet does a 360 sell of the phenominal forearm. He timed it perfectly and it looked great, of course until they showed the slo mo replay and you could see him watching and waiting for the move and that the 360 was totally a result of him jumping.

At least rock dropped to his knees. Hate how so many don't anymore Scott Hall sold the shit out of the Stunner too at Mania. Know what's funny? I used to really love when new guys came to WWF just to see how they would take the Stunner. Like you said, some guys jump and go to their knees, others just went straight down to their knees, some just went to one knee, while others would just bend down. It's weird, but I always liked seeing how guys would take the Stunner.

Sgt Slaughter was best because he'd take a front bump despite Austin's shoulder being there so it looked like he both snapped his neck and crushed his throat.

At least rock dropped to his knees. Hate how so many don't anymore I wonder if they don't drop to their knees in an effort to avoid potential injury. Wrestlers now seem to get hurt a lot more often.

Especially with Slaughter's big ass chin. I always liked Foley's. When he was Dude Love, and it was in Austin's Titantron. I think Bret did it too, just dropped to his knees, no jumping. But I tell you what, there are few things better in pro wrestling than when Austin would hit a good Stunner. Like when Austin's ass and his opponent's knees would hit the mat at the same time, and the crowd would go batshit.

the 619 setup has always been the one to get me. it wouldn't be as bad except for the fact that the only time you see someone end up draped over the middle rope like that is when they face mysterio. and it's not like most of the time (I do see him sometimes doing a rana to send them to the middle rope but not that often) he's doing something to put them there, it's "rey hits a move, other guy flops around until they eventually end up draped over the middle rope, 619"

For my money the best Stunner sell was the one Shawn Michaels did at Wrestlemania 14, where he dropped to his knees then immediately bounced up and onto his back. I remember it specifically because that sell was used in the N64 games.

I loved Santino saluting as he fell to the mat. Pure silliness.
