Gossip about the fourth Spider-Man movie {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Because that period where he was brooding and calling himself The Spider worked out so great.
Also that's kind of the opposite of The Batman? The whole point in that movie is him learning he does need to be more of an actual person and not just lose himself in the Batman identity aimlessly seeking vengeance on crime as a concept.

Yeah, that’s a dumb idea. This is perfect college years era Pete. Reintroduce the gang (Flash, Betty, Robertsons son, and Felicia) and go from there

He's still got some sort of life... though the ending of No Way Home does raise a lot of questions that aren't really answered... like does Peter have a birth certificate or social security card or literally any form of identification now? We see him taking his GED at the end of NWH so he didn't go to High School officially... and then there's things like Ned and MJ being friends which only happened because they shared the mutual friend... but I've complained that NWH's ending felt really rushed and poorly thought out.

Gossip about the fourth Spider-Man movie {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} While he needs to be more independent, it's not in this sense. It's more in the sense that Peter in his own right is a genuinely incredibly smart guy. So far he's been riding Iron Man's coattails and relying on him far too much. It made sense at first but Peter has grown so much and they need to show that. At the same time, one of the best parts of Spider-man have always been his supporting cast and the relationships he has with them. So he needs to be more independent as in he needs to stand on his own two feet. He does not need to be more independent as in distancing himself from others.

Like, far be it from me to try and justify some of the systems we're in now but it's so weird to me how executives across all major media companies see diverse films get successful, make a f***tonne of money and their approach is most of the time to ignore those lessons.
Black Panther is the 6th highest grossing movie in North American history. It's so far the only Marvel movie to be nominated for Best Picture and the only comic book movie to do so. People were still seeing a movie that came out in February until December that year. It very clearly got a large demographic going to the cinema repeatedly and instead of looking around and going "Hey, this means diverse movies might make some money", they just...don't. Or wedge people into boxes. It's baffling. We got a range of Disney+ shows which is great until you realize that doesn't really help the marketing strategy of the movies because you have to explain to those who don't have Disney+ or don't feel the need to watch the shows.
Like, say what you will about Peltz (and he should f*** off regardless), he's at least honest about it. Warner Bros saw the success of Crazy Rich Asians (making a billion dollars btw), tried to pay the Asian writer less than her white male co-writer, they both quit and the studio wasn't able to capitalize off that success because the people in charge are dim.

Besides Phoenix's performance, it's nothing special. I mean, all of this regardless is getting away from my point. But I will say I'd rather have DC's approach where they allow in-universe and elseworlds stories and writers and directors are able to flex with characters or allowed to expand on present characters than Marvel thinking, of all things, Quantommania wasn't a safe movie. Still absolutely confused by that. "Oh man, we made a third movie on a moderately successful character, look at the risks we're taking!"

I’d like a difference in Holland’s Spider-Man and the second(?) trilogy, so I’d be open to introducing more of his side characters under these circumstances. They ever gonna do anything with their version of norm? Cause Harry would fit. Shame Sony’s got a hold on Eddie, Felicia, etc

Being fair they DID lose money on it, though that mostly seems to be because it's a shitty movie given it opened much stronger than the second movie before it went off a cliff. Which I think more than anything is the issue with Marvel right now. The products just aren't delivering like they used to.

But we're not talking about the Eternals here, they weren't rewriting the book on stuff, they did a third movie based on a character who was moderately successful the first two times. The fact word of mouth and reviews were bad did the number and not the fact it happened.

The biggest thing working against Ant-man Quantumania is that his first two movies were heist films. Stakes were relatively low compared to many of the other marvel films and they were frankly more personal. He had more in common with the street level heroes in that sense. Quantumania took the Ant-man formula and turned it on its head. People went in expecting A and got B. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but in the end it was a change that didn't pay off. I'm not nearly as critical of it as many, but as much as I enjoyed the Ant-man movies (I still rewatch them sometimes), I don't think that was the right choice to introduce the new big bad...or at least the way they went about it.
That said, it feels like Marvel got a bit high on their own supply when you look at some of the budgets they were giving films. Marvels at least had a previous film hit a billion dollars, some of the others? Not sure what they were thinking.

Besides Phoenix's performance, it's nothing special. I loved it, but then watched it again and it felt like sort of a modern day King of Comedy. I still like it, but not as much as I did intially. Phoenix was still amazing, though!

This is very similar to what I was going to say but I decided to read forward for once. The first two Ant Man films were relatively low stakes comedy heist movies. They set up Ant Man and, in the second film, Wasp as an important part of the team. Quantamania was trying to go way too big/important with side characters (I don't mean that as a negative). The movie was more about setting up Kang and the ending really screwed that up, IMO.

And Dark Knight really, really should've been but that's neither here nor there. It's mind boggling that Joker was nominated. It was alright, but not what I'd consider best picture material. Although, personally I feel that was a Joker movie in name only.

My wider point is that doing a third Ant-Man movie is not a risk. Everything else around it? Sure, but the concept of a third Ant-Man movie makes sense to do. Along with, for the record, a second Captain Marvel movie. Everything else? I mean, I haven't seen it so I wouldn't know.

Captain Marvel made a billion dollars and Ms. Marvel was critically successful and seemingly well liked (It's hard to tell streaming as they don't always give out numbers)

Said it many times that taking Antman, who was a palate cleanser after high stakes Marvel movies, and suddenly basing a Phase defining movie around him was a stupid ass idea.
