...of stuff?
Not needing to obsess, not needing to cosplay, not needing to ship, not needing to gatekeep...
I just ask because that's about as much effort as I'm willing to put into anything anymore.
Just casually enjoying something and not having to worry about if I "fit in" with the vast majority of the active fandom.
I know there are a lot of people out there on the internet who don't like the idea of people who take their beloved thing in one ear and out the other, but I've got so tired of the idea of having to live up to their levels of obsession or activity.

No one ever asked you to care to the point that you "got so tired of the idea of having to live up to their levels of obsession or activity."

Plenty of stuff. Not everything needs to be a big to-do, I think.

Yes, because I don't identify myself or my sense of self with the stuff I read, watch, play, or do. There is a world of difference between statements like "I like stuff" and "I am a fan of stuff." It's too bad that there's not enough of the former and perhaps too much of the latter in today's pop culture climate.

Unfortunately, I’m too obsessive not to obsess.

Definitely. For example, I’m just a casual fan of the Marvel movies. I couldn’t stand it if I had to read through a thousand reviews of the last Avengers movie. I thought the movie was fun but I have no desire to go deep into it or see it again anytime soon. There are only a handful of superhero movies that feel like classics to me anyway.
I use to be pretty obsessed with wrestling when I was a kid / teenager. I had to watch everything live. It was getting ridiculous. It started interfering with my personal life so I had to learn to prioritize things. It’s just entertainment. It can wait. I’m not trying to judge anyone else. I just had to get myself in order. I still appreciate the super fans of wrestling. They find lots of interesting stuff that they share. It’s why I hang around this board. Wrestling just isn’t as addictive to me anymore.

Your problem is worrying to think you have to "fit in". If you enjoy something, no one should be able to disturb your enjoyment because you don't enjoy it the way they do
You don't have to live up to people expectation and don't know why you think you should

Of course, I am a casual fan of loads of stuff dipping in here and there always happy to look into something new. Variety is the spice of life as they say.

I obsess over stuff in the sense that I think about it a lot, but I've never been into cosplay and shipping and stuff. I don't really collect things either. If I like something I just watch or read it, and that's about the extent of it.

There's the odd enclave like this forum I still like but so many things that attract obsessive fans have increasingly toxic communities that I want no part of. I didn't even hate the last jedi.

I obsess, but I don’t do any of that stuff. There’s a big spectrum there apparently.

This is pretty much where I am with wrestling at the moment -- specifically with WWE.

I can be a fan but I have my limits when it comes to stuff. I remember when I first got into wrestling, I had to watch everything live. I had to get shirts. I had to get games. These days, well, actually for years now, I am for collecting things, but I don't need every single thing to have. I can buy DVDs, but I don't see myself buying DVDs of wrestlers I am not a huge fan of.
With comics, I'll just get them from the library if I want to read something. I'll decide if it's a keeper if I like it enough to buy it.

I’m that way about everything I’m a fan of. I try to be a fan and not a fanboy.

One of the reasons I've never been to any fan conventions, even for things I really like, is that I just don't feel comfortable when I see someone with that level of adoration and love for something. Whether it's a movie, TV series, comic book, whatever, I just don't have that heightened level of devotion, where I need to meet the cast or join fan groups. And I don't find it particularly difficult to walk away from a property if I stop enjoying it.
It's why I'm always at a loss when asked 'what's your favourite movie/TV show/band etc.' I can't really answer the question because I like lots of different things, in various amounts.
For people who are that into things, that's great, but it's just not me.

There are some fandoms I will ship and write fic for, but there are even more I just watch to pass time. And that's ok.
Also typically no matter how invested I may be in something, I typically avoid fandom because it's usually just arguments and nitpicking and so much drama that I don't need.

I’m that way about everything I’m a fan of. I try to be a fan and not a fanboy. I think "fanboy" might be the right term here. Anyway, what about music in this case? I don't know about any sort of fandoms related to music, this is a person who is devoted to following a band or something. I consider myself to be a hip hop head, but I would never get into any arguments with anybody about who's the best and stuff. Believe me, as someone who is a part of a couple of Facebook groups involving hip-hop, every post is about how much today's rap sucks or Tupac is the greatest of all time and anybody who disagrees is bound to pick someone off. I also hear that sometimes metalheads can be pretty toxic. But then again, when it comes to being fans of music genres, it's usually those two that are considered fandoms when it comes to music.

I think that some people take their fandoms too seriously. Some people make their fandoms a part of their identity, and those people are personally offended when something that they do not like happens. It's entertainment; it isn't a meaningful hill to die on, imo. Or get really upset when something from that fandom is criticised, Even if it's warranted criticism.
