Was Goldberg squashing Ziggler predictable? Yes.
Was it as quick as expected? Yes.
Does it show WWE doesn’t care about building its own homegrown talent over past legends? Absolutely.
But I’ll say it...Ziggler goading Goldberg into fighting him again, even saying “It’s just a flesh wound”...turned me the hell around for the whole thing. It was genuinely funny.

Dolph is pushing 40 years old; he's past the point of home grown talent (Don't mean to sound jerky if it came off this way). His best skill is being a crash test dummy for big guys.

Oh, I get that and it makes sense but he’s not the first or last guy this happens to. This match is just the embodiment of that.

If they cut off his arms and legs, he'd still brag about being the greatest torso in wrestling today!

I feel like in retrospect this has always been his character and we (and also he) are just now realizing it.

I wonder if Heyman had anything to do with this. He used a similar booking strategy with building Tommy Dreamer up after a singapore cane match with Sandman back in the mid 90's. At least that's how he explained it on the Rise and Fall of ECW DVD.
Not saying Goldy coming back to spear Dolph is 1:1 the same as Sandman caning Dreamer into oblivion, but it might be a good way to keep Dolph looking strong. At least I'll remember most of the aftermath more than the actual match itself.

"HEY GOLDBERG YOU CAN'T BEAT ME MAN TO MAN A THIRD TIME" is a great line for how absurd it is.

I feel like in retrospect this has always been his character and we (and also he) are just now realizing it. And it works because he was money tonight Him talking shit to Goldberg and not being able to stand was gold. It just fits him because he can make anyone look like a thousand bucks but he also has the ability and the accolades to still be a threat Do more of this. Make him write checks his ass can't cash on occasion but never forget that he is not some bum. This works

I watched the twitter clip.I like it.
It is something different and makes him look somewhat tough at least in that he can take a beating and get up.

He deserves every penny of his pay for SummerSlam just for that sell on the first spear. As I said in the PPV thread, you can say what you like about his character but when it comes to selling, I’d genuinely put him up there with Mr. Perfect.

Mr. Perfect always teetered that line between making your opponent look great and Shawn Michaels facing Hogan at Summerslam. I think Dolph has a bit better balance, but both were god tier in making their opponents look like a million bucks.

I don't think Ziggler is exactly great at selling, especially in a long match situation. What he excels at is bumping around like a pinball, and this exact scenario is where that skill could shine tonight.

Hope this doesn't give Vince ideas that we all want to see Goldberg back in Action forever so every pay-per-view he squash midcards that Vince doesn't give squat about
so we'll get to see Goldberg vs Mustafa Ali, Andrade Almas, Rusev, shinsuke Nakamura, Bobby Roode, Cesario
or even AJ and Bryan , Richocet , Black etc etc

Hennig on a few occasions did cross the line with his selling but the one thing I will say is that I never got the impression it was out of spite. That’s what separates him from Shawn levels of over-acting.

Goldberg coming down that ramp for the super spear like.... It was Taker respecting Jeff Hardy with, like, zero percent of the wider context. And Taker killing Jeff for the 3rd time.

Ziggler's growing on me again, dude was hilarious last night. 2012 Heath Slater (where he was getting his ass kicked by legends every week) is a good role for him right now.
