I played through it with some of my friends recently and it's so much fun, though wish there was a more reliable way to actually complete it! Got as far as the certain number of steps to make the first laugh happen, then couldn't get the second to go off, so we watched the final cutscene on Youtube. Atmosphere wise, still one of the best games ever made with such a limited actual amount of space to explore. When you can make a single corridor that effective you know how much talent there is. A pity we didn't see what they could do on a larger scale.

I still have it on my PS4. I keep having a debate with myself every year about selling it on Ebay and getting a new one. When I get a PS4 Pro or a PS5, I probably will part with it.

Yea, fxxx you Konami. I don’t know if a game ever scared me (full body chills and having to walk away) than when I turned the corner and that thing was just standing there.

PT is great, but I could kick it in the nuts for inspiring so many bad clones. QT was fun, though. But the rest of them? Yeah, kick in the nuts.

That seems to be a thing for many genres, but especially horror games. Think of all of the shameless ripoffs of Amnesia, and obviously Alone in the Datk, though at least some of the games that took cues from it, like Resident Evil (which sorta combined that and Sweet Home), took it somewhere unique.

Oh sure, or the Slender clones, "Survive the Night" FNAF-style games or even the brief rash of Baldi's bootlegs. But not of that absolves PT from a nut punch.

I remember my whole family was visiting in Chicago at a cousins place when that came out.
I was doing my NFL fantasy league draft and it was the 2nd round when I started to play.
My cousins and I got hooked on the demo that much I auto drafted the rest.
Answering the phone in the game got too much for my younger cousins she started crying cause she was scared so we played the rest of the demo with the lights on. Near us was a picture of our grandmother who had passed away. I kid you not that whole time we played I swear her picture when from smile to frowning. Freakiest thing I can remember the past couple of years.

Paul Thomas Anderson: The video game. Real Answer: PT was short for Playable Teaser. From wikipedia, a first-person psychological horror video game developed by Kojima Productions, under the pseudonym "7780s Studio", and published by Konami. The game was directed and designed by Hideo Kojima, in collaboration with film director Guillermo del Toro. Of course, Konami wanted to go in a different direction in regards to video games. So the relationship between Konami and Kojima went to shit and the game was never made. Kojima left and is now working with Del Toro and Reedus on Death Stranding.

While it sucks for people who were looking forward to it I don't really think much was lost from Silent Hills being cancelled mostly because the strength of Silent Hill is the story and Kojima is a mad man who can't tell a coherent story to save his life.
That said Konami certainly shouldn't have delisted PT and gone out of their way to bury it. That's just being dicks.

More importantly, it was the teaser/demo for Silent Hills, a new entry/reboot(?) for the Silent Hill series, which oh so desperately needed a W after the just absolutely woeful downward turn the franchise took after SH4(I will maintain that 0rigins was at least somewhat competent, just not amazing, though I did shockingly love Shattered Memories, the only real beacon during this era in the series' history). And P.T. looked like Kojima was going to deliver(the dude already incorporates a lot of great mindscrews into the Metal Gear franchise, and that's basically Silent Hill, a bunch of mindscrews with great introspection into the human psyche).

I don't know how Silent Hills itself would've worked out, and PT was intended to be a short alternative experience, but it really nailed a lot of atmosphere and horror elements. Plus I rarely hear people mention how good the graphics were, it's just a hallway and a couple rooms but rendered beautifully.

As a fan of Suikoden, I feel you when you speak with love for a property being squandered by Konami.
