Yeah, I read that and thought it was a bit much. They're acting like Sony hadn't already made a gazillion dollars with Spider-Man before the MCU was even a thing. And let's be honest, the MCU is not perfectly adapting Marvel Comics themselves. In fact, I'm quite worried about them MCU-ifying the X-Men. I think the bottom line for me is that I'm looking forward to a Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland where he isn't Tony Stark Jr.

See, my problem isn't so much with Spidey not being part of the MCU, but with that iteration of him going unresolved. Now if Sony were to somehow pick up that narrative, just with little to no direct references to the MCU, I would probably be fine with that.

I figure that's the plan since they've retained not just Holland but also the writers.

I'm hoping it comes back to the MCU for the fans, but on a personal level I don't really care because I find Tom Holland annoying and the only live-action Spider-Man movie I actually liked (granted not seen Far From Home) is Amazing 1.

It at least links to another source that isn’t them so a major step up. But...I don’t know, I can kind of see the logic. I mean out of all the studios on the list, the more likely ones are A24, Lionsgate and Sony since the Viacom/CBS merger is early days and Netflix is pretty laughworthy as an option. And out of all those mentioned...Sony are the only ones with a built in animation studio too so AppleTV+ will have that covered. I’d say Lionsgate has more film variety and easier to digest for them and I don’t think Sony would want to willingly sacfice a money maker for the sake of it but still.

Amazing 1 is a lot better than it gets credit for. Admittedly it still has its fair share of stupid parts - like the crane operators, them just leaving their obvious doomsday device plugged in, and the camera scene - but yeah, there is a lot to like about it. Offhand I absolutely love the scene where Flash comes up to Peter to offer condolences.

I also love the end, where he gushes to Peter about his love of Spider-Man.

That's in line with the comics, too, IIRC. Flash becoming a big Spidey fan, that is.
I also thought Amazing 1 was underrated, though a lot of it also had to do with Garfield and Stone having incredible chemistry with each other.
