Okay, so here's why I'm not terribly inclined to count Spider-Verse as a win for Sony despite the fact that I absolutely loved it - through it they've demonstrated that they learned absolutely nothing from Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Like yeah, the movie's excellent. I also thought Amazing Spider-Man 1 was pretty good (despite some very shaky bits, like their casually displayed doomsday weapon and the Amazing Crane Operators) and like it a hell of a lot more than I do the Raimi movies. But they've already announced a sequel and a Spider-Women spinoff, made it clear they're looking into making TV show spinoffs, and have talked about doing a Spider-Ham movie. This leg of the franchise is going to immediately cascade into seeing how much more money they can wring out of it the same way ASM2 did.

At least we still have Miles.
And part of the goodwill for SpiderVerse should really go to co-director Peter Ramsey. He also directed Rise Of The Guardians, which is kind of an underrated Christmas movie.

Also, Sony is constantly teetering on bankruptcy and they'd probably be there already if not for the Playstation division. The chances of them buying any major media company, much less freakin' Disney, is pretty much nil. That actually how the sony/disney deal started. Yes Sony is a big company but the only thing that actually making Sony a profit is the Playstation division.

Yeah, my bet is their 'counter' was 75/25, because of course they'd think they're still the reason why the latest installments have done so well.

Disney deserves everything they get.
Its amazing how people will stand up for one corporation over another and pretend one is the victim.

GOD f***ING DAMMIT.
They just released the best live-action film of Spider-Man which is supposed to kick off a new phase of the MCU. I was so excited for the next movie, especially after the crazy mid-credits scene. I just hope Disney and Sony get their shit together and sort something out, because there's so way in hell anyone is going to tolerant another shitty Sony Spider-Man movie or god help us, ANOTHER Spider-Man reboot.

All I really have to add to this is I saw Far From Home today and it was pretty boring. A bunch of dumb characters doing dumb things to stretch out about 25 minutes of plot into 2 hours. Less of this cornball shit, more Spiderverse-like stuff please.

As I understand it, the Tom Holland version of Spidey is tied to Marvel (Holland's 6-movie contract is with Marvel Studios, not Sony) so either they reboot or figure out a way to extricate him from said contract. Edit: it seems his contract had him on Marvel's payroll for the ensemble movies, while Sony have him locked for solo movies.

If this is final, then I'm done. Not just with Spider-Man, but Marvel movies in general. I hate unfinished stories. I hate sequel teases that go nowhere. And this isn't just for a sequel, this is an entire f***ing direction for the MCU derailed. And this may be an overreaction, but I may be getting tired of film franchises as a whole. I just want to enjoy a movie without having to bother about the politics of it all.

Actually Marvel should replace him with another insect character: I'm not even joking THe Human Fly is prime Marvel 70s goodness. There is so many great b,c and even D level 70s Marvel Superhero titles.

I guess this will be the third time the live action Spiderman movie series ends abruptly on a down note. It’s starting to feel like this franchise is a bit cursed. I guess they’ll reboot it again.
I know the MCU will continue to be successful but I feel they peaked with Endgame. It’s going to be very hard to top that achievement with Iron Man, Captain America and now Spiderman out of the picture.

So...are we saying that Sony should have accepted a worse deal for them just because we like having Spider-Man in the MCU?
Because that's what I'm basically reading here.

Unless I'm missing something, that's how I'm reading it. I think that Sony will be looked at as the bad guys who took away Spider-Man, despite not really doing anything wrong.
