What were players you liked but they never "made it"
Meaning, they were just there but never great. Doesn't mean you thought they would be superstars but merely players you believed could be decent
QB Brady Quinn. He is one I thought that could have finally did something for the Browns but like a lot of QBs before and after him, he just couldn't get it done though in fairness to him he had bad luck with Derek Anderson basically forcing the Browns hand after leading them to the playoffs

He kinda made it, but I was huge on Cadillac Williams at Auburn and was ecstatic when the Buccaneers drafted him. He won ROTY, but then had dual patella tears which no one has ever come back from. He played some and became an ok 3rd down back for a couple seasons, but he never became what he could have and has been quickly forgotten. But still, one of the most impressive pro comeback stories ever.
Will Derting was a monster LB at Wazzu, but injuries ended his career out of college so he never made it to the NFL. I think if he stayed healthy, he would become the next Zach Thomas. He was a sideline to sideline beast.
I actually wrote for a draft site during the 07 draft, so I remember Brady Quinn well. I thought we would be good also. But one of my favorite linemen from that draft also ended up being drafted by my team (at the time) in Arron Sears in the 2nd round. He was phenomenal as a rookie and could have projected to be a Pro Bowl guard in the future. The next year he had a bad concussion and never returned. Like, ever. There was no news about him, even from insiders. He was eventually quietly released a year or two later. Then started showing up in police blotter. Then an article came out that he had "total loss of function" and had to be cared for 24/7. I've never had the same passion about the NFL after that. I can't watch anymore. Not just that his life is essentially over which is awful, but it's one of those things where the team knew he was bad off and hid it from everyone. f*** the NFL.

I really hope Teddy Bridgewater doesn't end up on this list... but he's getting close to ending up on this list.

I thought Mike Pelfrey was going to be a stud pitcher for the Mets. Never quite got there despite not being a huge bust like many other Mets prospects.

Phil Hughes for me. Thought he was a future cornerstone of the Yanks' rotation but he just ended up kind of a scrub.

As an IU graduate who used to watch a lot of basketball, there were several Hoosiers who let me down in terms of becoming stars in the NBA, but I suppose many of them cannot complain too much.
Calbert Cheaney looked destined for great things but fell off eventually. Still, he got 13 seasons in the NBA and appeared in NBA Jam, so that's pretty cool.
Alan Henderson was in the NBA for 12 years. Other than getting a "Most Improved Player" award one year, he did not make much of a splash, but 12 years getting paid to play hoops isn't shabby.
Jarrod Jeffries got 11 years in the NBA despite never really producing much.
Greg Graham got 5 years in the NBA, though he briefly looked like he could actually be a solid player.
Brian Evans got 3 years in the NBA, which was 3 years more than I expected him to get.
I understand that had I kept watching I might be able to enjoy Cody Zeller, Eric Gordon, and Victor Oladipo do good things in the NBA, but I don't have the time to dedicate myself to watching NBA anymore.

For my beloved Cubs, there have been so many. Brant Brown, Kevin Orie, Mark Prior, Micah Hoffpauir, Corey Patterson, and the list keeps going. It wasn't until very recently that they have drafted well.

It wasn't until very recently that they have drafted well. Mark Prior and around the same time Kerry Wood. They where not bad picks or horrible players. They where both future aces in the long term but Dusty Baker Blow there arms out as rookies. Instead of watching there pitch count and innings which these days would have happen. They both would been an elite one two combo in the rotation. Dusty over worked them and soon they both ended up with arm problems. Woods got reduced to a reliever and out. Prior just lost it all.

Brandon Wood. Stud minor leaguer for the Angels that couldn’t make contact at the major league level.
