In general Owens just seems completely spent as a character at this point. Both as a heel and as a face we've had this big, "Oh shit, they're all in on him, this is getting real!" moment now and it's just quickly settled into the same old mundane both ways going. He's neutered as a heel, he's neutered as a face.
And if he turns and runs to NXT off of this it'll just look even worse because he'll just come off like such a quitter. Plus it means the one person who actually managed to get one over on Shane still just winds up being completely ineffectual against him in the long run.

Y'know? I actually prefer Baron Corbin to Shane now. At least Baron's shtick is infinitely more entertaining than Shane bumblef***ing about.

There's only one mantle Owens can have now: It's the perfect disguise! If asked he can say "NO NO Kevin Owens is CANADIAN! I'm MR. AMERICA!" I would forgive the WWE all their sins if Owen's comes out as Mr America and ends up acknowledging that he was the original Mr America as well and it becomes official WWE canon.

Also, it'll mean the one other guy who managed a victory over Shane since they started this "Best in the World" nonsense was Shorty G himself, and as far as we know, if he loses to Baron Corbin Monday, he's probably going off TV after Monday or Tuesday, and if he wins... well, as I keep saying, King of the Ring historically doesn't push babyface winners unless it's to build another feud (such as Bret Hart vs. Jerry Lawler and Edge vs. Christian) based on someone being jealous over said babyface winning. So I don't see a Shane/Gable feud being "must watch" or even "car crash" television.

Yep- the Owens as ref will somehow offset his “firing” & somehow Stephanie and/or Triple H will end up being positioned as the big babyface in all of this.

I just remembered that thread about if you could ask Vince one question what would it be. This was low on my list a few months ago but I think now I'd be asking why the f*** Shane keeps going over his stars?
Kevin Owens reaction to being fired could potentially get him back on track because as others have said, when this started he was turning heads and making people take notice, then they neutered him. So either his reaction is a burial of him or redemption. Likely it won't be anything else.

If WWE are putting Owens on NXT in order to put more star power in Full Sail in preparation for the coming war with AEW, then that is just stupid. I can't imagine people who only watch Smackdown and/or Raw tuning in to see Kev after how he has been booked since 2016, and putting him in the main event is going to make the dudes in NXT already look subpar compared to the other two brands to those people.
Sending Owens back to Orlando and keeping Gargano there would be just stupid. I mean, you are putting the Black and Yellow brand on TV for the first time, and two of your top babyfaces are a dude that threw in the towel on the main roster and a dunce that loses big matches thanks to his inability to learn from his mistakes. That'll put butts in seats.

It's a shame wrestling companies can't play nice together, it'd be so cool to see fired characters turn up elsewhere just for a week or two to sell these kinds of storylines. Barring that, gimmie a good "fired guy shows up in a mask and pretends he's not really who he obviously is" Midnight Rider gimmick because those are always great. "From Montreal, Colorado, The Midnight Rider!!"

We've seen Owens literally say he quit one time and then show up literally the next week. Who could possibly give a f*** about him being "fired", hahaha? Like, this what happens when you don't respect your own angles. Your audience doesn't respect them either. Well, some fans want them to bring back the attitude era, and nothing defined it quite like "none of the stipulations and outcomes matter or will be abided by".

This wasn't even the first time Owens got fired with the fans chanting the names of rival promotions. There was the time he and Sami got fired from Smackdown, lost to Shane and Daniel at Mania, and then Kurt namedropped TNA while booking Kevin vs. Sami with a Raw contract at stake, they went to a Double Countout, and the fans chanted for TNA and New Japan.

I just don't get anything that they're doing with Owens' face run. Like, f*** letting him be himself, make him backyarder Steve Austin.

Not just that, but they have the real Stone Cold making multiple appearances in the last couple months, but I'm not even sure Austin knows that Owens is doing his finisher while feuding with a McMahon because they won't even book a segment that pretty much writes itself.

Why can they not just book Owens as a face right???
His first face run this year, they had him doing some weird James Corden impersonating gimmick.
Then the second time around, they literally make him Steve Austin. And they’re not even trying to hide this fact.
Fans hate wannabes. They see right through this shit. So it really bothers me that an excellent wrestler like KO who is capable of making anything work, is being reduced to this.

They totally needed Kevin to do the Stunner. It's not like the Package Piledriver is incredibly safe by piledriver standards, very visually impressive, and they've let Rey and Andrade do Canadian Destroyers. No sirree.

Silly Moz, everyone knows the best way to reflect 2010s wrestling is to have someone you want to treat as a big star half ass a successful gimmick from the late 90s and have him hit a move that referees do on a regular basis on the indies. It makes so much sense!

Man, if he wasn't completely impoverished before with that massive fine, he'll definitely be now since WWE talent have no discernable skills.
