In their primes, fans debated who was better between The Undertaker and Kane. Now that both men are at the end of their careers, Kane is clearly superior in my mind. Kane's character is much more versatile, can participate in funny sketches, and can be used to put over new threats like The Fiend. On the other hand, despite being over 50, the aura of The Undertaker still has to be protected at the expense of new talent.

I mean, I don't see any 24/7 title wins against Taker's name. It's clear who's the true legend here.

Kane should be loved far more than he is. Enough of the Local Men stuff. Guy was 7 foot, could wrestle and was adored by Vince. He could have had a Bruno style stranglehold on the top title, instead he spent at least 99.9% of his 20+ year career trying to make everyone else in the upper midcard/main event look good. Even Test and Khali. Wasn’t Taker 24/7 hardcore title champion once? I have a really vague memory of him carrying that shitty broken title He definitely won it (late 2001 into 2002), but nobody tried challenging him for it under the 24/7 Rule. I do recall a segment around Christmas 2001 where Taker had the belt, and some of the usual 24/7 folk tried to triple team him, only for Taker to murder them all, and the segment ended with a 4th 24/7er being stared down by Taker, only to drop their weapon and run. It was very funny. Also that entire run revitalised Taker's career and ended with him putting Maven (Maven!!!!) over 1-2-3 in the middle of the ring.

I have a really vague memory of him carrying that shitty broken title He won it from RVD at Vengeance 2001 in a match that should definitely get mentioned in one of these Forgotten Gems threads. As somebody else mentioned nobody dared to threaten Taker under the 24/7 rule, if that was even still a thing at the time.

I need to find that segment now.

I like Kane but like Big Show I don't want to see him wrestle again

I like Kane but like Big Show I don't want to see him wrestle again Me neither. That wasn't what I was attempting to say in the OP. What I was trying to say was that when Kane shows up on Raw, in a town that he literally runs as its mayor, he goes out on his back to make The Fiend look like a million bucks. Meanwhile, the week before, The Undertaker hobbled down to the ring to make himself, and only himself, look good.

The Kane character would have likely have failed miserably with anyone else under the mask, but dude committed to it and made it one of the most iconic characters of the last 25 years. And to top it all off, in a business full of petty high school drama, I've never heard anyone say a bad thing about him. I used to joke that he deserves a statue outside of Titan Towers. Now I actually would have no such issue with a thing like that

Ugh.
The Fiend doesn’t need to be “put over” by Kane.
Kane and Taker are hitting 60. Beating them does nothing for nobody these days, no matter how hard they try to convince the fans it does.

Come on, man. It's fine to not want him around, but 52 is not "hitting 60". That's almost (but not quite) as bad as when I turned 18 and my father said "You're almost 40! Act like it!"

Kane has the benefit of not being as big a legend of the Undertaker, so he could do things like Corporate Kane, Team Hell No, or just be Glen Jacobs later in his career. Taker always is Taker, with only now, you see occasionally Mark Calaway in social media, outside wrestling stuff.

Did people really debate who was better in their prime? I mean it's unquestionably Taker.
That aside, Kane's returns are 100% more fun than Taker's returns and 150% less depressing.

Like within a few weeks of it ending he was in the main event again and thriving and the crowds were treating it like "Oh shit Kane's going to kick ass!" again as if none of that had ever happened. It's hard to imagine anyone else so utterly bombproof with career ending angles.

Before then, he survived literally saying he'd set himself on fire if he lost a match, survived that whole X-Pac betrayal storyline that hurt X-Pac with the crowd and that feud with Jericho that literally started with coffee. Literally, the only person whose somehow survived more stupid angles in his whole career is Mark Henry and they actually wanted to get rid of that guy.
