So praise be to Khorne or Odin or Gaia or something because the 'Michael Cole sits and lets someone get their character over' interviews are back.
Our first suitor? Erick B. Rowan, Esq.
Between last week and this week, I had no idea that he could cut promos this convincing.
Who are some people who can cut a great promo that you had no idea about? Or even one-off promos that are surprisingly good?
Outside of Rowan, I have a few examples:
- Lita's promo at One Night Stand 2006. I wasn't watching at the time and Lita hadn't cut any promos that I'd seen by the time I bought this DVD. It's not really a 'good' promo in the traditional sense, but I think the way she leaned so far into it makes it hilarious. I wish I knew other people who found 'Tommy Dreamer. The innovator... of SIIIIIILENCE' as funny as I do.
- Tully Blanchard at Heroes of Wrestling 1999. Now obviously Tully was a great promo guy back in the day, but this show is infamously terrible, and this promo was magnificent. I have no idea why Tully put this much effort in.
- Vickie Guerrero the night she was fired - not so much just a surprisingly great promo, but a surprisingly great babyface promo from someone who had been heel for years. I get chills watching it to this day.
What are some more examples, folks?

R-Truth's crazy heel turn promo with the first reference to Little Jimmy had me like WOAH
An enthralling promo, and an absolutely ridiculous improvement on anything I'd ever heard from him before that point.

I know he’s been great for years now but remember the time Daniel Bryan/Bryan Danielson was considered a mediocre/bland promo guy? Who would have thought he’d as good as he is now?

He is a perfect example because I never saw any of his mic work on the indies, so when he suddenly cut these insanely good heel promos this year I was amazed.

I used to genuinely loathe Orton during his frat boy/legend killer days. I don’t remember what PPV it was, he was IC champ at the time, and he cut an incredible promo backstage on the crowd and his opponent. Wow’d me. Moreless this has been Ortons M.O in terms of both his ring work and mic work: coast along but every now and then killing it out of nowhere.

Was it the promo he did in the MSG stairwell where he reminded everyone that the previous year, he'd kicked Mick Foley down that same flight of stairs? That promo was great.

Damn, it might’ve been, my memory is really blurry about it. I just recall the IC title being involved, and Randy being randomly really energetic compared to all his previous promos at that point.

Regal has always been a very good promo guy but never really got a chance to show it too much in the WWF/E, so that promo he cut on Triple H about Eugene came a bit out of nowhere.

When The Miz first got drafted to Raw in 2009 he cut a really great promo on Cena that pretty much immediately made him the more interesting one coming out of the Miz and Morrison break up.

Easily Miz had some nice scripted lines against The Rock and John Cena, and to a less impressive extent against Jerry Lawler and John Morrisson in all those World Title fueds. But Daniel Bryan made Miz 'the man' on the mic with this Talking Smack promo where he just walked off in defeat to Miz's god-channeling promo cutting. It was a "moment" that WWE adores, no doubt. Unfortunately for anybody else, Talking Smack isn't a thing anymore to get people over-- unless Fox gets Renee Paquette dat packet deal

I'd always heard stories of WALTER's intimidation and seen his matches to back that up but the man can cut a mean promo, and his accent only makes him more terrifying.

Not the fact that Regal did great mic work but the fact that he did it as a baby face! Baby face Regal in 2004 is not something I was ready for.

Am I crazy, or was that thought to be AJ Styles' crutch coming into WWE?

Am I crazy, or was that thought to be AJ Styles' crutch coming into WWE? Partially? I mean, I never thought he was a bad promo, just not someone who should be doing monologues. He definitely got a new lease of life in New Japan in that regard.

Would I be wrong in saying Becky Lynch? She always seemed to be written off as a strong promo because for a long time she didn't cut that many of them (leading to the newz story that she wasn't doing promos because Kevin Dunn hated her accent), but then it seemed like overnight she was really, REALLY good at them.
