So I have no recollection of this... after dino bravo faced Texas tornado at mania 7, he took some time off and came back with black hair, red and black gear and kind of reverted to his dream team Johnny v days. No Quebec flag gimmick, no jimmy hart. Randomly teamed with colonel Mustafa to face lod. What was going on here? I don't remember it much on tv or ppvs.

Dino was mostly on house shows and overseas tours as he was not on WWF TV on the weekly shows.

His contract expired in 1991, WWF opted not to renew it, and so afterwards he took the bookings he could get. In the spring of 1992, they had scheduled a retirement show for him in Montreal which ended up being cancelled. He didn't want to retire as apparently and maybe not surprisingly for a past star, his lifestyle required a steady WWF superstar type of income. Unfortunately to compensate for the new circumstances, he escalated his involvement in the black market.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNUGuJcGQKs he has a match against Shane Douglas here from MSG in July of 1991. at the next taping they shot an angle where he turned babyface after punching The Mountie but I'm not sure if it aired anywhere. He wrestled Louie Spicolli one the same taping (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fH48eqHI-J0) He went back to doing matches as a heel until a match in Montreal where he did a special referee gig for Bossman/Mountie to setup a match with him and Mountie when they returned to Montreal in October. That was Bravo's last match until January where he beat the Barbarian in his "retirement match." But then he did the European tour as a heel and even subbed for HBK against Bret in Germany. That's where his infamous tag with Col. Mustafa happened. From the looks of the other cards it seems that The Nasty Boys were missing from this show, they had been facing LOD regularly on that loop. Ted DiBiase also seems to be missing (they had Brooklyn Brawler team with IRS the night before) so I'm guessing they had to shuffle the card around for the PPV. That was Bravo's last listed appearance with the company.

I remember he appeared at least once on Prime Time Wrestling around Spring of 92, possibly against Bret, I honestly don't remember, and I believe working as a face, with dark hair and different gear. I was 10 at the time so I had never seen him with dark hair and the change was shocking to me. He was somebody I hadn't even really noticed was gone until I saw him again but those one or two appearances were the last time I heard about him until reading about his death in PWI a little over a year later.

I was a Dino Bravo fan so I would have liked to see him with WWF for a few years longer but it was definitely time for him to go after WrestleMania 7. If he had lasted on TV into early 1992 it would have been clear that he was very out of place. There weren't many guys he could mesh well with to make a true team, like Valentine, and Jimmy Hart's teams and singles were about 5-10 years younger than Dino and it would be clear he was much older than they were. He wasn't the best but he was far from the worst. I would rather see him with longterm employment over Crush or Prince Albert or Kama Mustafa (pre Godfather).

Dino Bravo was always one of the boring wrestlers from that multicoloured era for me. I do remember he randomly returned for one match on the UK Rampage show in April 1992 with black hair teaming with Col Mustafa vs LOD. I never saw him again after that.
